A quick hour in the morning

Recommended Posts

Since im off work today, i thought i would get up early and go for a quick shoot. I decided to go to the same permission as last time, but this time go to the other house which ive been given permission at, but not shot there yet.

This is just someones back garden. I can only shoot here early morning any time before half 7. The guys happy for me to shoot but only wants me to shoot when hes about and he leaves for work at half 7 every morning.

I had text him last night and told him i was coming up just to see where the rabbits were coming from and maybe pop a few from the car window if i got the chance.

Below is a pic i took from the car window, not a great pic though as it was taken on an iphone

When i arrived i seen some rabbits doing the off, but one stayed, just sitting there on the lawn. I got out the car, went round to the passenger side, grabbed my gun and managed to lay down behind the bush on the left, on the strip of grass you can see and it didnt even flinch. I put the bipod legs down and got it in the sights and bang!! A few leg twitches and that was it. This was defo a clean kill, but ive got in habbit of wringing a rabbits neck once ive shot it just to be sure.

My only real view onto the lawn was in the gap between the to bushes you see in the pic, so i had to reverse and go forward every now and again to get a view of the full garden, which wasnt ideal. But as i had told the guy i was just going to be sitting in the car and shooting, i didnt want to go into the garden and find a spot to lay up and shoot until i have cleared this with him.

After about half an hour or so a rabbit ran onto the lawn but didnt stay long, i was about to raise the gun up and it was offski before i got it in the sights, ah well. Then about 20 mins or so later i spotted another through the trees in his garden. It was behind some growth and i couldnt get a shot off unless it moved, so i watched through the scope for a few minutes but it seemed to disappear. By this time it was about 7.00 and i decided i would only stay till 7.15. At about 7.13 another one popped up infront of the bushes, it was facing away from me and i couldnt really see it head, didnt really matter as it was only there for about 30 seconds before it went through the bush and into the field on the other side.

So at that i decided to call it a day and left, below is some pics

The entrance wound

post-31892-127651137129_thumb.jpg

At first i thought i had shot it straight through the eye but when gutting it a realised i had got it just above the eye

The exit wound

post-31892-127651138434_thumb.jpg

I thought this was a weird place for the exit wound to be, as i didnt think the rabbit was sitting at a weird angle or anything, but im guessing maybe when the pellet hit it it may have deflected and didnt go straight through, who knows.

Cheers

Hiya Johnboy.

What a cracking shot that was mate, you were unlucky not to get a couple more.

Still, they will be there next time.

A pellet will deflect off of bone hense the exit wound in a strange place.

Well done mate.

One little comment I would make though is get some covers on the turrets of the scope

As for the ones that got away, well they'll be back in your crosshairs soon :boogie:

Yeah i know about the covers, i was zeroing at a farm permission one day and forgot to put them back on :wallbash: next time i was there i couldnt find them, what an idiot. Do you think they can be bought separately?

I always check my zero before i go out and take a few laminated targets and stick them to trees while im out to double check anyway.

Cheers for the SP.

I lost the manual switch and a battery for my Ultrafire torch one evening before xmas last year.

Never could find either.

Then once the snow had gone I found the battery, it was screwed totally :wallbash:

A week or so later, I took a 45 yard bunny on the noggin, went to retrieve it and there at the side of the bunny was my manual switch BONUS :boogie:

Not sure if they can be purchased seperately though, what scope is it?

I may be able to help ;)

Lol thats a result!!

Em its a Nikko Stirling 3-9x40 Mountmaster AO i believe. Its not a big deal if i cant find anyway. Im hoping to get a new scope in the near future and this one will just be going into the cupboard as a spare. I had a very brief look on the net there but never seen much, its prob a case of going back to the manufacturer.

Cheers,

John,

Stick a ruler across the turrets and let me know the diameter and also the height of the turrets from the top of the adjuster to the bottom of the thread, I'm pretty sure one of these sets of caps will fit :D

If they do I'll ask you to PM me your address and I'll post em to you.
