Phantom 631
Went to the Paddock and Cemetery yesterday (nowt new there then huh?) As I got to the paddock, there was the remains of a young Song Thrush near the gate, had its guts ripped out My guess is one of the Corvids did it :realmad: As I walked over to my usual Zero Point along the fence line, I see 6 bunnies, two sort of mid grown and 4 kits! The older two gave it legs in one direction and the other kits headed straight towards me, I just froze wondering how far they would come. They got to withing 15 feet and took a very shar left turn at a fence post and vanished down a hole that I had not noticed before. Looks like Speedy has been a bit of a Jack the lad, knocking up young Doe's over in this permission. Three of these kits were identically coloured to him and had cream/white stripes running from forehead down to the snotter. The fourth one was pure Silky Black in colour and didn't half look sweet AWWWW So as well as all the other hundreds of new kits in the Paddock and Cemetery, there are these Coloured Guy's to shoot as well I'm not even thinking of knocking em off until they are at least 3/4 grown unless they show their bonnie little faces in the cemetery, then they'll make nice eating and nice gloves, but I want at least a hat out of the black one Anyway, I checked my Zero with my 3/4 inch sticky black dots, the wind was comming from the N'N'E direction and my grouping was not the best, but still less than an inch with 10 pellets so I figured I'd have a go in the Cemy for some bunnies. Climbed through the fence into the Cemy and who do I see about 50 yards away? SPEEDY and he's just sat there waiting for me to give him a lead headache. Quick think...., 1 inch group at 30 yards, wind now blowing from left to right, he's 50 yards out and Feck no shot! Need to get from the conker tree to the tall headstones 15 yards away Wearing DPM but no hat, balaclava or gloves and a white tshirt. Zipped up the jacket which covered the white, pulled over the hood which put my face in shade, if I'd gone for the gloves, I'd have made too much noise with the carrier bag. Suddenly out to my right a young kit hops out of a burrow, he'll have to wait and he scurries off into the direction of paddock, another bunnie out near the central warren just sitting there. I'm on a mission, he can wait his turn as well. Loaded my baby and crouched down, making my way over to the 1st monument. Got to it and another kit hops out from the old ladies garden and joins Speedy for a munch. Get to the second headstone and suddenly a couple of Magpies take to the air I hadn't spotted them and I should have done. I slowly bring the riflle to shoulder, carefuly moving around the headstone to point it at Speedy's nappa :search: Where the feck has he gone? I didn't see either him or the kit move but both had vanished Looking over to the Central Warren, that lump of furry destruction had also made haste, no doubt down the warren next to where I will be sniping from. Looks like those maggies had given the game away so I went back and got my gear from behind the tree and set up my poncho hide and got myself settled so I would be shooting into the wind. I stayed in this point for the next 4 hours watching all the main routes into and out from the old ladies garden and also the routes into and out of the unused part of the allotments. Only one kit showed its self. It was at the entrance to a warren near the allotment a few yards from where I'd gotten the two for one deal the other day This was going to be an easy shot the wind had died down and he had his back to me, neck stretched up front paws in the air sat on his butt. I brought my baby to bear on him, just a bit of hold under between his upright ears and he's mine 1st stage up, beathing settled, crosshair just under his ears directly at his noggin and second stage squeezed, phut and I see the pellet contasting against the dead grass as it flies right betweern the young un's ears almost taking the fur from his scalp. Needless to say the young un drops down from its upright position, turns back into the warren and vanishes at speed DOH I didn't see another pair of ears, another flick of a tail or any other sign of a Cony until I went home! Shame really as the kits make the sweetest meat from the Cemy and as for Speedy, well I think he was Harry Houdini in a previous life to pull off that vanishing act. Well I'm off out soon to try again! Phantom Quote Link to post
