Its about time

Recommended Posts

Went down to some old permmision in derbyshire that iv had for years but share with many for a weekend camping and shooting with the lads and well what a weekend. see what you reckon,

Got to the permission around 17.30, got to the usuall camping spot and set up camp, well sleeping bag and 2 second tent, sorted the fire out and got pleanty of wood ready for the evening. id seen the weather report and there was no way i was going to be cold and wet.

With this all done time to get the S300 out and do a zero test, there a nice little vally right next to the campin spot with a good natural back drop that measures bang on 30 meters.zero sorted and shooting bang on the money, god im ready for this after the week iv had.

so around 20.00 of for a mouch around made my way through the wood to a feild that i know theres a good chance off spoting our grass munching freinds. the wind was in my favor as i approched the enterance to the feild where i planed to shot from, stalked up pocked my head over, ohh the smile on my face 4 of them sat in twos at around 30 and 40 meters. best of all they had no idea i was there. :)

right gun up slowly on to the post settald my self and took aim at the bigges bunni at the 30 meter mark, right well theres a good bit of wind blowing up the feild so mill dot to the right took aim at his eye allwoing for the wind to drift it to his brain.

quick note to self stop smearking there going to see the white of you teath :D

nice slow squees of the trigger smack hit just behind the eye big backflip followed by a lie down and a wave :clapper:

god that felt good bin far to long, moved my eye away from the scope to see where the others had gon just in time to see mr bunnie get up and start twitching his way in to the headge, no way im not having that,.5 of a second later im 2 meaters away from him big leap to flat on my face and he'd made it to his burrow just on the other side of the headge. for :censored::censored::censored::censored: sake why, if id have go my hands on him

ok my fault allowed a bit much for the wind an hit just behind the eye maybe i dident get enough of brain wont be making that mistake. after my rambo style run and a jump down the feild they wernt going to be out for a while again. off to another feild on the edge of the woods.

got there pocked my head round the corner and snap stood on a soddin twig, bout 6-7 of the little sods ran for it, all but on sat with his head up looking at me, right your a goner mate slowly crouched pulling the gun up good 50 yrds this one, head in full view bit of hold over squeze of the trigger and slap a few quick waves and a twitch, no way was this one limping off got down to it and rang its neck just to make shure. no need mind shot was just behind the eye. :boogy:

just enough light to get bk to the other feild an have a nother look, shure enough 5 of them out.right then same as befor not so much for the wind this time, sent the aa lead flying and missed what the f :censored: , this feild hates me,sat down for ten to work out what id dun. dont know how i missed must have been over excited, poped my head bk up after ten mins and there they were all babbys tho. but the farmer had told me get them all theres loads of then and his cropes were just comming up, so with baby in the sights took my time sent out the lead again and hay presto, what a little acrobat this on was flipping round all over the shop. collected my price and went bk to camp to see what the lads had got.

they had had a nighmear everthing had just bolted from them. two up to me but should have been 4. felt a bit bad about the one slowley dieing down his hole tho, note to self shoot when further away from the hedge

Did a bit off lamping but nothing. so off to bed.

got up at 4.30 off the the feild where bunney no 1 had got it and just the one about 70 yards out and already got his eyes on me,no chance, off to the other feild.

Same spot and loads of them happerly munching the crops. right wind in the same direction but oh so cold and bitter, with my eyes watering got bunnie in the scope at around 35 meters. allowed for the wind squeesed the trigger slap right through the eye, not the shoot i wanted but droped down with just a wave, wated for a while nothing more, bk to camp for sausages cobs.

all in all had a good weekend but a few lessons learned. the wind dont affect the 177 as much as the .22 so must learn from this weekend. and for god sake dont shoot them when to close to the hedge, this i no but for some reason dident do.

will add the pics off the prize when the emial from my phone decides to reach my laptop.

all comments welcome good or bad, i know i made some stupid mistakes this weekend, and im not convinced the aa diablo pellets are hitting hard enough. ideas welcome have some accu pell to try next.Does any one know the grain of these in .177. as i will have to restet the gun to make shure im not over the limit.

many thank sorry its a bit long

happy hunting all

Andy.

Well done Rossy, you should have had the big bunny spit roasted on the open fire :D

hay there mate.

must admit i was thinking about it, have a cooking method with chicken witch may work with rabbit.

this is as i do it with chicken see what you think.

take the chicken skined and gutten place a grill above the fire about a foot,(just a nice heat in the fire) and take one can of real ale (tast of your choice) and insert this into the chickens ass. place tin foil over the top of the chicken and let slowly cook. the legs and outside cook frist so steady eating all night and the ale gives it a nice flavor as this heats it steams the chicken from the inside and the tin foil reflects the heat to the top and lower to mid parts of the chicken on the out side. odviosly open the can a blown up chicken and a ring pull in the eye is no good to know one.. the flavor is all down to what ale you like.

its beutifull have a try. and you eat it as it cooks ie pull the legs off as they do tend to cook first then go through the rest of the meat as you eat and it cooks.

think with the rabbit may have to do some exspermenting but could work in a simeler way.

all ideas welcom chefs.

would like to hear from anyone doing any thin simalar.

happy hunting

Hi there Andy,

Nice going :clapper:

Its a shame about the runner, but at least you aimed for the head

Knobheads just don't give a sh!t where they hit

The AA's are deffinately hard hitters  in both .177 and .22 I suspect you would have had the same result if you had used any other.

I had a similar runner last year, altough it dropped dead when I chucked my scrim on it; now I pull their necks as a matter of course if they go down twitching. Like you I don't want the same to happen again.

Its really upsetting isnt it?

Enjoyed the read and you obviously had better weather than us round here

hi pal. not shure about the weather like the post says the wind was bitter and had to wipe my eyes to stop them watering to take the shot. god dam cold with the wind howling up the feild stright at me, least the bunnies dident smell me tho.

did want to leave the bunnies to see if there was owt elce but after the first, any twitch and a was down that feild faster than the pellets.. :11:

do fell bit bad about the one that got away tho, for its suffering and my loss.

thanks for the comments tho pal.

Right, so what your really saying is that I need a tray of twenty four, one to flavour the chicken or rabbit, and twenty three to down while it cooks, sounds good to me mate :D

hi bud,

it always good to get out and especially if you havent been out for a while!!

shame about the runner, there is another thread on THL about the rabbit skull and i kinda believed that anywhere up to 1" behind the eye is a brain shot but the best place is just below the ear?? did it drop when the pellet struck? if so it may have just had a few good leaps in it left and died quickly down its hole....???

the recipe sounds good mate i really need to do a camping session with the lads soon!!
