Whippet or Small lurcher

Just curious what your preference would be for a small rabbiting dog that would be used in the daytime with terriers. I owned a whippet many years ago, he worked really hard to catch his rabbit but never really mastered the art of nailing the rabbit quick enough tending to chase it for longer than was really necessary. This may have just been my particular dog, but i was wondering what you have found to excel at nailing a rabbit quickly over a short distance as is usually necessary when bushing. Do you find that although there maybe a reduction in speed by diluting the whippet with another breed it may be possible to increase catch rate, or is this a waste of time and it would be better just to find a good establised working line of whippet?

IMAO its more to do with how the dog worksalong side the terriers.

its no good if the dog is only out the odd days, i work my whippet along side my terriers and therefor he has learnt to watch and listen for the terriers.

 

I wouldsay a straight whippet or a small whippet cross would be ideal

i would go for a 3/4 whippet 1/4 bull, still be fast+agile, and not to big.There as been a few litters on here. J.P of wales as good line of this x
