inan 841
have a look at theses then Impressive enough I thought. The ground they were running on should have given the dogs the advantage, yet they struggled to put a bend in, and 3 dogs behind a hare is absurd.I don't think any of those dogs would find a UK home in a committed coursing mans kennels . NORELATION 6
Is there any of this breeding in the stag hounds in the states? Quote Link to post
COSH 14
they are good on the larger deer species, and were bred to be run in numbers of 3 or 4 on quarry like wolves where they were expected to keep the wolf pinned or at bay until killed by the huntsman (on horseback) or they sometimes dispatched themselves. their wasted on hares and other small game, most serious russian hare coursers run a type of pure greyhound, they dont seem keen on saluki crosses over there for some reason? not sure why that is? COSH 14
Is there any of this breeding in the stag hounds in the states? Id say origional staghound types go back to British/Irish running dog stock, and more than likely have no borzoi in them. Quote Link to post
bullxbitch 20
My mate used to own one and it was shite, would only run game if another dog ran first!! Deer ran past the bloody thing while it watched and it stood and watched another dog killing a fox, went to bite it once and it backed off, the only thing it was good at was going for other dogs and anyone it didn't know. paulus 26
Theres an old guy in our village who used to run them years ago he recons out of all the ones he owned only one ever did anygood and that was limited to foxing. and that was nowhere near as good as his bedlington crosses. I think theres pictures of his borzois and beddy crosses in walshes books lurchers and longdogs and longdogs by day. Quote Link to post
