Calling Hares?

Recommended Posts

Hares have been scarce in my neck of the woods for a good few years but are starting to make a good come back. We went out for a walk about some local areas today and were lucky enough to spot 2,then on the way home we saw one sitting out in a field.

I watched her with the binos for about 15 minutes and saw 2 little ones quite close by feeding...Very nice to watch.

But as the larger one fed I got out of the car and squeaked on my hand like you would for a fox...I only done it to get her to look up so I could get a good look, but she took off in my direction as soon as I done it, flying down the field, and right up to the wire, looking right at me...Then she turned and went half way back and when I squeaked she came right down again! This went on for a while until I stopped, and then she stayed close to the young ones, sitting up high and watching all around.

Its at least 20 years since I have saw this much Hare activity, Its great to see them making a good come back. I was just wondering is it common for them to be called up so easy ?

had that a few times mate and have no idea why they would come.

a hare does make noises allthough nothing like a "squeak"(more of a growling noise,i would guess that most have not heard it).

that dvd is a great watch, the second version Old Ways 2 is just as good. Its amazing how close the hares actually come in with no hesitation whatsoever, even better seeing the amount of skill the bloke has with the catty, unbelievable!

I've learnt a lot of a lad on here over the last few months and kissing the hares in is one on the strangest things I've learnt :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: Obviously we were only kissing them in for a closer look but it works  Also seen barn owls flying down the beam and hovering above us at the slightest squeak as it passed by. That was something I'll never forget, those buggers are silent
