This was an article in our local paper today after weeks of prejudice reporting towards fieldsports in particular coursing they are now urging people to unite about the following:-

"There is growing evidence (the latest in a book by a marine biologist) that fishes, like every other animal can feel fear and pain. The time has surely come to consider the banning of angling. There is no excuse for any animal to suffer harassment, torture and death just for someones fun. I would appeal to anyone who loves animals to join the campaign to have angling banned. How long have fish been caught for sport? Thousands of years?

 

It was proved years ago that they cant feel the pain of a hook in there lip and that they cant remember getting caught. So why has it changed now?

I think that they have a point.

 

Makes me a bit uncomfortable when you see these fishermen playing the fish for ages and then sitting it on the bank for a while taking pictures over and over again etc

 

How is it different to letting the deer out of the trailer and chasing it with hounds

 

In what other area would this be allowed, think there is an element of cruelty in there. Whip it out and bash it on the head.

 

Isnt the law on foxes that the coup de grace has to be as quickly as possible.

 

I will also probably not stand with the fishermen because we saw no solidarity from them when the hunting ban came in.

 

They are fairly safe because of the number of people doing it (voters) in the towns etc and the fact that fish arent 'cuddly' so there isnt the nutter out there. Just loko how fast that whole dog uproars was turned around when it became obvious how many people would be pissed off!

I hate it when i here people from one group slating another.

 

If you lads are slating carp fishing, then you are only helping antis ban it, and if they ban carp fishing, what chance have lads hunting quarry with dogs/air rifles/hawks or whatever it is got?

just pointing out the double standards fishermen have. i just dont belive , what fishermen say when they say fish dont feel pian, i was a fisherman , and have seen fish strugle more when your removing the hook, i wonder why they do that proberbly cos they can feel it.

 

 

 

in fact all you fishermen out there, you can all do a simple experiment. go catch a fish and whilst its on the bank give it a poke somewhere or try to inflict some kind pian , somthing that would proberbly hurt your self.

I apprereciate that some fisherman are of the attitude that "fishing will never get banned, there are too many fishermen, f**k the hunters" and are selfish cnuts!

 

But still, this doesnt mean dog men should be the same.

 

The thing for fishermen is that when hunting does get completelty outruled then fishing WILL be next, like it or not.

 

I say again, we must all stick together. Im not saying it will help any of us, if they are gonna ban then they will ban, but slating one another only gives them ammunition.

The problem is that fishermen don't stick together with other fishermen, dog men with other dog men, etc, let alone all stick together as one organisation. All the forms of hunting/fishing are fractured with no common goals. Most individuals are only concerned with what they do, and in a perfect world that's all they should be concerned with because what an individual does in their spare time is of no concern to anybody else.

 

It's a shame though, because all of our opponents are united in what they stand for, be it anti fishing, anti hunting with dogs or anti shooting. I reckon in years to come people will look back and wish they'd all put more effort into uniting in opposition to the constant erosion of our chosen ways of life.
