Mick C. 229
Hi. When an experienced lamping dog is slipped on a rabbit, is it supposed to keep out of the lamps beam until the rabbit is reached? If this idea is true, does the dog have to be trained to carry out this task, or is it down to the dogs natural intelligence and cunning? THANKS Quote Link to post
RossM 8,149
as above natural to her, not straight away though took her till she was 3 to master it. Quote Link to post

cocker 2,655
my collie greyhound bitch runs wide. out of the beam, then comes in from the side and picks the rabbit up, all the dogs ive seen do this just do it naturally, through experiance, they learn. cocker Quote Link to post
codmaster127 64
the mother of my dog does it, they learn themselves on that one, she also creeps up on a sitting rabbit if its to far away and then strikes, (collie blood in her), she always runs between the rabbit and any cover keeping it in the open , clever to watch, Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
every dog has its own style, it doesnt realy matter in the beam out the beam long as they get the job done Quote Link to post

Mick C. 229
Thanks lads, very helpfull replies. Is there a possibility that a dog that runs out of the beam is less likely to spook the rabbits that squat and therefore picks up a fair amount of sitters? Quote Link to post
