Irish Lurcher 1,013
I find bitches more loyal, willing to please, I have three bitches at the moment and they are a treat to own, find dogs are always a little bit head strong, but hey they all have their faults, just enjoy whatever you get. Romany 1,065
i lyk my dogs better so i can run them all year round instead of waiting for a bitch comeing out of season atb Ive always had bitches, and have NEVER laid one up because of being in season, having to do that was set up by part time hunters and one for the pot men so they could have some time off to go out dancing or other things they are probably more suited to.. wee gemm hunter 8
I,ve had good dogs and bitches I've also had not so good dogs and bitches, As far as not running a bitch in season I have had just one bitch that there was a problem with she pulled up on a chase with cramp and she wouldn't run after that when she was in season. She was fine up 'till she was 4 years before this affected her. Quote Link to post
gav1 0
Was thinking earlier about having a dog or a bitch, personally it dosn't bother me I would happily have either but aknow alot of lads who will only have bitches and a few that will only have dogs, am just wondering what's your prefferance and why? Cheers lads Darren I personally always choose dogs. I find that bitches can be a bit too headstrong and have a tendancy to work by their own rules. Dogs are far more biddable and submissive although they can be a bit more on the stupid side and require a bit more patience in the training stages. Think you should read another book mate, youve got it the wrong way round thats my opinion as well mate! Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
I prefer a dog myself mate.I just find if I fall out with a dog your mates again before the next run but if I fall out with a bitch I fall out with her for the night. But I honestly think its all in the head and if your dogs good bad or average it will be what ever its sex. JMHO ATB Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
i race greyhounds as well as run lurchers prefer a dog for the track but funnily enough always prefer a bitch for work if theres a choice but at the end of the day a good un is a good un dog or bitch .little tip if your fed up with bitch coming in season or your in a comp and frightened she might .see your vet and put her on the pill same as a womans pill and they run really well on it just put one in her food every day cost is pence and doesnt affect the bitch at all . Ned Makim 116
There's no difference in working potential between dogs and bitches. Ours are tested one out on boar pigs so you find out instantly what's in the dog. I have never seen any difference in toughness between dogs and bitches in those gender terms. Individuals yes but as two groups of dogs no. If they are bred right they will just have different styles on the hunt. And dogs are dirtier and inclined to roam out of the yard more. Bitches are more attentive and loving. All a matter of personal preference IMO. I have no preference one way or another. Whatever is on the truck dog or bitch is expected to vigorously look for pigs and hang onto them when they find them. Cheers. Quote Link to post
