Nikon Scopes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

looking to invest in some new glass for a varmint rifle I am building.

Thinking along the lines of Nikon Monach 3 in 5-20, or 4-16, 50mm obj.wink.gif

So, anybody have anything like it?

First hand experiences only please!!yes.gif

How do theses compare to similar priced Leupolds??

And no, I cant go in to my local gunshop and have a look....cause no one in the areas sell anything remotely similar...............but............"they can order me one"doh.gif

Thanks for the comments so far. Mr L, not using a 527 action on the Hornet, so should be ok!

If all goes to plan, I will be using a Anschutz Action. Its currently not a bad shooter, managed just over a half inch group with it in the 2 foot of snow, blizzard conditions, and blowing a houlie...clapper.gif

So it may be staying as standard for a bit!!

Mattydski,i have a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 AG on my AA S410 & it's a fantastic scope.Had it for 4 yrs now & it's never lost zero once.I use it for lamping also & it's a clear as a bell.I've never used Leupold,Zeiss, etc but for the money Nikon will give them a run for their money..well i would think sohmm.gif .

When i have the cash i'll be changing the scope on my 22 LR to a 3-9x50 Fieldmaster & when i purchase my .17 HMR in the summer it'll more than likely have a Monarch sat on the top of itthumbs.gif .

For me the build quality is excellent & the glass is pin sharp even at max mag...have a look at them,i'm sure you won't be dissapointedvictory.gif

I have compared them to my VX-IIIs.

VX-III is better, but not by much, and it was a 50mm front on the Leupold and 42 on the Nikon

One area where they are destroyed by Leupold is adjustment range - 40-odd MOA on the Nikon, 95+ on the Leupold, but I doubt that will be an issue for Hornet - it was for me as some of the rifles go to 1000 yards.

Matty -

I should have pointed out that the build quality of Nikon cameras is also very high. There must be some reason why they are by far the most popular cameras with the press! A friend of mine is a doctor, and he was out one day when he had an emergency call-out. He dived into his Landy and took off flat out, and saw his Nikon in the rear view mirror fly through the air and hit the deck at about 25 per; he'd left it on the roof! He retrieved it feeling decidedly gloomy about the prospects of taking any more pics with it. Two small dents in the body and it worked perfectly.

Assuming that they build their sights to the same standard they have to be worth considering very seriously.
