And i`ve seen a few quite injuries when out with lurchers and terriers... I always have one in my van, nowt special, just the usual bandage, cleansing wipes, dressings, plasters, wound spray, vet wrap, and always have a bottle of water in the van too, and that's for drinking or cleaning.... "Well Done" to your mate for caring enough about his dog to be prepared... Yis Mars...

On the subject of sprains when i was a lad a horse trainer used to pay us kids to go along the brook and collect a plant that he used to wrap around horses legs i think it was called comfree ? did it work and would it work on lurchers? bullmastiff 615
I keep a Large First aid kit in the car (you can buy them from camping shops quite cheap) slip it under the front seat and forget about it until you need it. I also usually carry a couple of medium wound dressings, small eye wash bottle and a roll of electrical tape in my coat or rucksack when out with the dogs. takes up hardly any room in your pocket and can deal with most injuries until you can get to the car/vet. I've found the electrical tape really useful as it sticks to itself well but not to the fur so can be used tape a wound shut, keep a dressing fairly waterproof or even to muzzle a dog if their trying to bite you or the wound. It being so easy to just buy a full kit now(and cheap too) rather than having the hassle of making one up yourself, I don't see any reason why people don't carry one in the car all the time. sandymere 8,263
Bootle of water for flushing a wound or drinking, clean towel for pressure on a wound or wrapping a wet, shocked dog and most important of all 24 hour vets on speeddial. Most non emergencies can wait till I get home but if traveling any distance I'd include bandage, perhaps stapler and a 50ml syringe to aid flushing a wound or perhaps a sports top water bottle that can be squezzed to give a higher pressure flush.
