It depends were you are and if you know what you want but if you are just looking and want to try stuff stay well back from Neils i have had bad dealings with him not a nice man at all. I use Alex Dalglish eaglesham he is ok and always willing to make a deal. But for choice and size GLASGOW FIELD SPORTS IS THE PLACE AND A DEAL CAN BE HAD THERE.

Cheers for the replies so far guys, events and catcher ive visited Bruce a few times and hes very helpful but doesnt seem to stock alot of rifles but he has a very busy shop with all the fishermen.Gsp ill need to give that 1 in biggar a try sometime. The One and Fh im sure it was the guys from cluny that i spoke to at scone palace and seemed ok although a bit of a trek for me if they ended up not having what I needed .Birdman,Quik and Ross again these are a bit of a trek for me.Wire cheers for the input had mixed reports about alex's namely him charging more than £200 more for a rifle my mate bought than he could of got it elsewhere (my mate is obviously at fault as well for being daft enough to pay but was like a kid in sweety shop when he went ,I was at work at the time and couldnt work out how he had spent as much when he phoned)although another guy I know travels from Perth to Alex's as he recons all the shops up perth way are to expensive he recons he saved a couple of hundred pounds buying his z6 scope about 2 month ago and as for Glasgow field I use them on the odd occasion now but they started to get very cliche and not very helpful ,when I was in to buy my rifles they were all too busy talking to there other customers about who had shot what etc and ignored me so I took my money else where plus they made a mess of fitting studs to my hw100 the front 1 could actually be pulled out,but I have to admit they have a good selection of gear.

Sniper good reply mate and i do agree wit Alex being lets say cash hungry but it works both ways and if he know you are going to buy he will reduce his cost if not walk away .No one would by a car at the window price so why a gun . There not called dealers for nothing.

Yeah I know Wire my mate came to me on the monday night and I showed him the prices on a few web sites and told him to wiat till the saturday and we would go and get him his stuff however he decided on the wednesday (his day of) that he was going to Alex's .He phoned me and I adviced him to go over and check the prices and if they were just slightly dearer then go for it as it would save us a 1 1/2 hr drive to Dalry ,but he went over and as i said was like a kid in a sweety shop and was throwing in bipods ,knifes ,mods, slings covers .It wasnt until he phoned me back while I was sitting at my lunch break and did a mental count and was over £200 out.Deal was done then and harsh lesson learnt by my mate.As I said another guy I know goes stalking etc with Alex and says he will take me over when I go for my C/F and get me a good deal.

have to agree with wireviz about neil's over at stewarton/barrhead. i bought a .22 semi auto that jammed with everything i put through it, took it back and he butchered it that much i gave him it back. then a short while later i was about to buy a .243 from him,but ended up buying the same gun from Jay at cowans law for £150 cheaper !! to say neil wasnt chuffed would be an understatement. gave his shop a wide berth for a while until i went with my mate one day and he was still funny with me. asked him how much to screw cut my c/f and he says "depends if you bought it here how much". oh well, his loss, plenty others that'll take my dosh.

Surprised that People are finding Cluny cheap for ammo??? Robin has let people I know down in the past with second hand equipment....denial of responsibility for the working nature of goods. But after severe pressure, he backed down.

Dick Hardy in Forfar has always been reasonable for ammo..I alway buy from him if I can. I have had a rifle from him, and wasn't ripped off in the slightest.

Gows in Dundee.............. will not deal, only sell to make a profit, list price....is the price...etc...etc. Offered to buy four guns from him in the last eight years..never once offered a deal.

Crockarts.....Ok if you deal with the young lad or Robert, dont get on with Andy.. I have had a shottie and a rifle from him. Andy can be blunt to the point of being rude considering how much I have spent with them.

PD Mallochs can be useful for reloading..they are the only people this side of the river that stock it. Prices are ok. Wouldn't buy guns from them.

Montrose guns and tackle...Mike is ok, will do a deal, would rather take business than loose it..but doesn't have the back on rifles or technical ability.

Pick of the bunch for me............Dick Hardy. Customer Service is second to none.

I like what im reading guys keep it up ,its amazing how some people will get on well with certain shops and some dont and how some shop staff dont have the nicest of manners.Ive often wondered if I went in with tweeds on instead of deerhunter fleece and jeans it would be different

I have a feeling you may be on to something with a certain Blairgowrie based shop.. yes.gif , But the owner himself has always been polite and helpful.

E c o what I was ultimately looking for was a shop with good manners and good selection and it seems that just doesnt seem to happen with many shops. The Young's done at Dalry were ok but both Robert at Crocketts and Bruce at TandG have great manners and very willing to spend a bit of time with you and just dont want your money and get you out the door. What I will do when buying my next rifle setup will be to give both the chance to compete with the price etc and see what they can do ,but Crocketts are about the best ive found so far for ammo and small purchases in the general area.
