my mobile got upgraded and i decided to sell the upgrade on gumtree for £150, the night i put it on i received an email from someone saying they would like the item and they offered me £270, so straight away thinking something wrong but gave the benifit of the doubt. so the person said they would pay by paypal and sure enough i have a "pending" payment for £270 but it has still not went into my paypal account. i emailed the person and said that once payment had cleared i would post the item. i then recieved another email saying that once i posted the item i was to email the tracing number to customershelplink@mail2world.com and then payment would be cleared. i am very wary of doing this and before i could be scammed i was wondering if anyone has had any experiences like this? thanks in advance for replies. Ross

ps the postage address was in nigeria.

Personally i wouldn't send anything until payments cleared mate least of all to Nigeria. Mail them back politely and say the item will be posted as soon as payment is cleared ...payment pending is payment waiting to be paid ...Did you sell it thro gumtree or did you delist it and sell it privately ...if privately then mail them and say you're not posting until payment is cleared ..if thro gumtree then wait the proverbial 10 days and open a dispute with the buyer ..hope this helps

do as the others have told you DONT DEAL WITH ANY 1 FROM NIGERIA ( SCAMMERS ) AND DONT ANSWER THERE EMAILS. report this to paypal also when you ever get payed for an item with paypal always post tracked all the way to its final destination, because if you dont and the buyer says they havnt recieved the item ( when they have )and put a claim in and you cant prove to paypal that it was tracked with a tracking number you will find paypal will take the money out of your account and pay the buyer .

hope this helps

Just in case you didn't believe the above, I'll add a big fat "+1" to this. SCAM, pure and simple. It never ceases to amaze me how people fall for this stuff... some bloke from Nigeria offers you almost twice what you're asking, and you give him the benefit of the doubt? :doh:Cancel the transaction, inform PayPal and don't reply to the scum, you'll only get burned mate. Live and learn. :victory:

Hey,

I advise you not to send it.

I came across the same thing. I wanted to sell my car and posted it online. There's this guy who wanted to buy the car from me for his/her dad but the person told me that the only way for him to transfer the money is via paypal. Then, he said he is currently in China and needs an agent to pick the car up from me. He has to pay the agent $2000 and he needs my help to transfer the money to the agent via western union. I will be able to get the whole sum after making the payment to the agent. ( according to him, I have to pay for the transportation then only I will be able to get my money). I "received" an email from paypal stating that he will be transferring a sum of money into my account after sending $2000 to the shipping agent. HOWEVER, the email from paypal is customershelplink@mail2world.com and not the usual email address of paypal.

I believe this is a scam.

I tried calling the phone number of the agent that he gave me but it didn't go through..

Be careful..

Avoid the deal, they are trying to get you to bite with the silly offer, they are scammers, & bstds.....paypal will not cover your loss.

PAYPAL, are scammers too..dont use them use a bank transfer or cash !!

Paypal hate , Any gun sport or Any animal sport (see the listings)........& they rob us for 4% of a transaction & £1.80 to use ANY card payment..

Surely this is a joke? DON'T send the phone, cancel the paypal transaction. Even if the money clears into your account they can reverse the transaction and you end up with neither. Put the phone on ebay, they have really improved their help with non-paying buyers and scammers so you will have some protection. Or else put it in the free paper and accept cash on collection only.
