Hi Everyone

I took andyz out again, up to moonlight valley. Where we spotted a few bunny’s a couple of weeks ago. I was already up there in the day having a recky, and came home with my first woodcock.

Andyz picked me up 6pm me tinks and we headed of to zero first, we found a nice place out of the wind/rain a massive hay barn which measured 32yds total. He had to zero his MTC Mamba 3-12X44 which he has just put on his daystate MK4.

A nice bit of kit “If I don’t mind saying my self†anyways this was all done and went well, and the rain had stopped and the wind had died down.

So we jumped back into his landy, and of we set around the farm fields. Our first point of call was a telegraph pole, where we had seen activity a week before and some one missed miserably lol, but as we rounded the track they scarpered so onwards and upwards.

We spotted another about 80yds away, and I decided to go for a stalk in a half moon. I was doing really well until I put my size 9’s straight in a smudgy mud puddle

And its head was up and it as of.

We then carried on up to a small copse where the Daystate and MTC combo, OH!! And andyz got its first kill; a cracking shot just passed 30yds “well done that manâ€

I shout it went straight over not a twitch, a nice clean kill after he pissed it of we both went for a “walk aboutâ€

I had my NV unit on my AAS410K .22

I see a lot of bunny’s but couldn’t hit any, well two that were in range! But as I reached the top of the copse I just browsed over to the fence line, and there was a red jewel there as I shouldered the aas410 and put my eye to the scope I just see it move of into the long grass

After a half hour we were back at the landy, and set of to moonlight valley. So we had to cross a public road so rifles away in there cases and mag’s emptied of we set.10 minutes later we were getting the rifles out again and loaded them, and set of to a particular part of a muddy track where andyz and I spent some considerable bit of time with the landy :whistling:

I’ll let andyz explain that one, because apparently they get in & out of every where??

He told me lol :tongue2:

We pulled up not to close to the fence!! This time and there was a bunny out in the field @ 35yds.now I had just changed my filter to a green one as I was lamping now. And the NVunit went away, it needs a bit of tweaking on zero I bit me tinks! On came the lamp for a quick check it was still there!

So usual routine composed, breathing, squeezing, THWACK! Over it went no back flips not a twitch! A result

Of we went to moonlight valley, parked up and took a walk around. We kept in touch via radio “which were playing up!†andyz on the right and me on the left. After a short walk I spotted 2 bunny’s playing so thought I would do some static shooting, as I got closer they scarpered  So stayed put for the next play! An hour passed and they didn’t show again. I could here andyz was having fun, by this time the wind had got abit wild and the rain was starting to fall again so we decided to call it a day. We met back up and andyz was a big smile and two bunny’s. But all the same a good bit of hunting between showers! & high winds

Then on Thursday chaz rings me and is up for a bit of lamping, he picked me up at 6:30pm we headed to one of the nearest permissions as chaz had hospital in the morning & I was of to the good food show @ the NEC so we stayed close!

We turned up at the permission and a bunny crossed the car lights, a quick txt to the land owner and game on! Chaz went to the front field & I went round the back of the property

And got up position on some old tyres. I sat here for a good hour and see one but out of range, so waited another half hour to see if it was brave! But nothing so went for a walk and set up by the telegraph pole in the field, which is a good leaning spot lol. I wasn’t there long before the first target presented itself to me and it was in my zero.

Now on this permission there is a rail line that runs parallel with it so as a train passed, I used the noise and the filtered light from the train and me lamp to take my shot.

Train noise, light from the train, my lamp, THWACK! Lights out for this target.

After another hour nothing came in to my zero so I decided to crawl 30yds through horse shite, and nettles to find out they had scarpered DOH! But I see where they went, right by the hedge row about 80yds away. So back I crawl to me post pick up me bunny and set of on a stalk via the shadow of the hedge :ninja: after a 20 minute stalk I got in to a good sniping position and waited, and waited, and waited. Then as I looked up there right in front of me was a bunny, could not been more than 15yds as I moved my head in :ninja: slow motion to my scope I could see the bunny’s out line reflecting from the garage lights, and the help of the half moon.

Now if I had put me lamp on it would have ran, I couldn’t even put me illuminated retile on as the slightest movement and it was of. I know this as it has happened before to me!

Now my eye is at me scope hand moving really slow to the trigger guard. Not straight to the trigger as I want to nail this one not wound it, it being so close! Now im near the trigger. Now this is where it’s either gunner run or its head will move up, as soon as I push off the safety! Well safety of its head came up! A squeeze THWACK!! A world attempt at the highest back flip lol and down stone dead!

Well what a night not much happened after that last shot, met up with chaz and he had seen nothing it just goes to show how each permission is different!!

But was very happy with the combined team of myself & my trustee AAS410K .177

Here are some pics

Dunno how this one slipped past me :icon_redface:

Lovely write up buddy and well done on the Woodcock. I don't think I've ever seen one.

How much will it cost roughly to have it stuffed? I've got a load of info on Taxidermy and one day I'm gonna have a go at doing it.

There is a guy on ebay that flogs the chemicals for preserving the skin and feathers, but buying the forms for stuffing the animal and then the eyes are fairly costly.

Excellent shooting :clapper:
