how do you get your dogs fit

Recommended Posts

To all the people who think the barf diet is the top b*****ks go on the topic what i have brought through and see what parkstone whippets think to the redmills, i feed redmills for the performance

These dogs win alot of races, does that tell you something. :yahoo:;)

You also swear by Chudley's according to to your post in that topic.

instead of trying to incite an argument just let people do their research and make up their own mind,

If you love "complete foods" then great, I hope your dog doesn't get cancer or drop dead years before it's time, my dogs don't race they hunt and I can afford to lose the odd fraction of a second safe in the knowledge that they are getting the best possible diet, . and if their life is brought to an early end it won't be due to something I could prevent.

If you read the rest of PW's post you will also see the other obvious benefits of natural feeding in regards of coat, condition and temperament

Happy hunting, :good:

:D:D:D:D:signthankspin:

;):drink:

the reason you shouldnt feed dry food tinnedfood or any cooked food is this-

if any thing is cooked you kill the natural enzymes in the food, the body then has to produce these enzymes to break down the food, this then damages the liver and kidneys and increases the ageing process.if a quality dog food is fed a dog will run perfectly fine,i know of dogs that are only fed this and are very good dogs,i allso know of dogs that are fed raw chicken every day of their lives and they are allso very good dogs.i personally feed a mix of averything.each to their own, whateva does well for you

It's a bit of misconseption that (wild) dogs go for the "guts" firts. Sure, a part of their diet will be the vegetable matter in the guts (eg stomach, small&large insestines& the contents), but in the wild the belly is opened up by the alpha males/females to get to the highly nutritious organs such as the lungs, heart, kidney, liver, pancreas etc etc. FIRST.... NOT the intestines!!!!

Test this out yourself: put a bunch of sheep lights/offal (heart&lungs&windpipe, kidney etc.) and a bunch of sheep intestines and a chunk of mutton!..... and let your hungry dogs choose!!!...He will go for the offal!

Lower ranking pack members finish off the guts&contents and skeletal muscle !!

IMHO a complete bunny is the best (everything incl fur) if wormed on a regular basis.

They still need some veggies & fibre (eg grass peas...etc) for their digestion.

Whilst true that the whole animal is best nutritionally for the dog, the problem is a lot of us catch rabbits with our lurchers and feeding them "in their jacket" could result in the dog ragging on them or starting to chow down, and that would be soooooooooooo annoying, :icon_eek:

Each person feeds their dogs differently according to what suits their dogs,i feed my dogs on dry food also on chicken and beef mince, and mine seem to do well on both.in my opinion there is nothing wrong with dry food it has plenty of protein oils and fibre that a working dog needs mixed with mince this is a ample diet for a working dog.if you look at athletes they have a balanced diet with plenty of carbohydrates, protein, and ruffage in their diets and it,s the same for working dogs,to much meat is not enough in my opinion.regards collie john.

Buster you have been brain washed redmils better than barf

DOG= CARNIVORE = MEAT dead simple in it

DOG = CARNIVORE = DRIED VEGETABLE MATTER i dont think so

20 milloin years dogs have been eating flesh , and you think milled dried veg is what they need

Tomo Dogs are not carnivores, they are omnivores! They eat everything...............

also wolves etc in the wild eat the gut content

Gut content = milled vegetables

wolves are pack animals and when they kill everything is eaten! they dont kill to eat gut contents my dogs are on barf and will thieve meat if left out yet i have never seen them raid the veg basket open in the kitchen i have always questioned veg in the barf diet if it is needed why does it have to be cooked and mushed up?

admitedly but i was just saying why it was in there and that dogs aren't just carnivores i know they eat everything but they also eat the green stuff......................also dogs don't have the enzymes o break down grasses etc thats why when they eat it it comes out whole.........therefore when cooked/chewed and mixed with dead herbivores stomach juice means they can obtain wht they need from it!

Read quite a few interesting threads regarding diet and fitness, obviously excercise is each to their own and we all have our own prefered methods but Lee AKA RainmakerKennels knows alot about diet, nutrition and the BARF diet So id suggest maybe read a couple of his previous posts regarding this matter ( if you havent already) Im sure you can take alot from what he writes the lad is very knowledgable on the subject. Having said that Im yet to convert to a raw meat diet . . . Intend to though.

Guest Nightwalker
Iv been walking for hours every night running everything i can put in front of her from about 6pm to 9-9:30 every night and iv been road walking for 2 hours every morning before school. She is nice and fit but she is nowhere near as fit as most of the dogs on here. How do you get them that fit? Mine is out for around 5-6 hours a day 7 days a week even if its raining and you can deffinatly see the difference but she still looks like she has hardly left the kennel all year compared to most :11: And what do you all feed your dogs?

Thanks in advance

Good hunting

David

Your dog sounds extremely fit, as it should be with all that exercise. However, dogs differ a lot in their appearance and physical make up. It just may be that your dog will never carry huge obvious muscle etc - but if the dogs works well why worry?
