FERRETBOY 680
i would start her off lamping and hopefully you may get a few squatters.make sure the dog sees the rabbit before you slip her.she should click on after a couple of outings. good hunting rew Quote Link to post
marko 30
how old is the dog, is it broke to ferrets, has it seen what a lamp beam looks like of a night time first off if you start it on the lamp put out bits of titbits in diffrent areas in garden/yard put the beam on them so she starts to look whats in the beam then she will start to look whats in the beam and get curious this is a good way to train your dog to take out squatters good luck. Ray Mears 272
she is 9 months Quote Link to post
marko 30
she is a good age to start training on the lamp but i would say a bit young for running on lamp some say about 12-14 mths i go for latter when they are stronger. Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
let the dog watch other dogs working the lamp, this is what i did with my first dog, and he turned out great except for retrieving (which wasnt too bad anyway) that was, until he decided to rip up his ligaments. i plan to take skye out to watch other dogs, when she's about 7 months (shes 6 month old end of september) Quote Link to post

LDR 29
If it has a favourite toy, tie it on a piece of string and get it chasing it round while you've got the lamp on it, in the dark obviously, once it seems to be looking at the beam and finding its 'reward', chuck the toy out and put the lamp on it and send the dog on its way, whatever you do mate you're gonna miss a load, untill its ran a few....good luck mate, and like people have said before, wait untill its a bit older...... REGARDS COLLIE JOHN.its not a matter of starting your dog to early if its bred well it will kill when ready. my 7month lakey and 10month bed/grey/wip done fox first time out and by the time he was3 hed done countlless fox ,roe.fallow i would have backed that dog against any other in the country at any quarry execpt fen hareim talking 1980s here. so if she wants to kill now let her put her in on a kill with another dog..... got to agree Quote Link to post

dickyboy 1
i chuck fur covered dummys all round a football field then lamp them and get him retreiving ........ then went some where where i didn't care that the rabbits got lamp shy(they all hug the hedgerow) and just held the light on them walking towards them without slipping him, my boy soon picked up that live rabbits as well as dummies were in the light beam, a bit more retreiving of the dummies then off for a nice easy night hedouldn't gab them but always goes down the beam, if i stop the light for too long he just wants to run down it then when i took him out with a couple of other peoples dogs who could do it it clicked and theres no stopping him he had 5 out of 6 on his 7th night and never had a blank night since Edited September 8, 2006 by dickyboy Quote Link to post
