out on the new permisson

Recommended Posts

hey lads

after a pretty unsuccessful night of shooting (that write up is in that section) we decided to work the ferrets and new pup (in training)we hit the ground at 06:45 2 men 6 ferrets and a border terrier pup on the night shoot we saw shit loads of bunnies

so we were looking forward to a good day.

the 1st set was a small 5 eye set we netted up put one of the gills down 2secs later 1 in the net followed by another then nothing so off to the 2nd set a little bigger about 10 holes new netted up put 2 jills down and the ground moved 10 rabbits later it when quiet but the ferrets refused to come out which was a good sign because the set was so big 1 rabbit was giving the 2 jills the runaround so we collared up one of the big hobs within minutes the last rabbit bolted all the ferts out onto the 3rd set

we gave the jills a rest and collared up the hobs this set was about 15/20 holes so we used 3 hobs 2 in at each end the other in the middle very quickly we had them in the nets, after 6 more bunnies 2 ferrets showed but 1 didnt so out with the finder he was laid up about 5 foot time for the first dig (lucky for us it was very sandy ) we were down within ten mins straight on top of the rabbit with the hob on its arse ..after filling the hole in we had a cuppa turned and look at the rabbits we had already only to find the pup cuddled up with them lol we forgot the camera i was gutted cos you would of all laughed at the little killer lol

with a few more digs and a total of 6 sets the sky opened and we got wet just me and wor kid cos the pup found a new home inside my bag (shes not daft lol)

we took some pics when i got home total for 6 sets 28 bunnies

wor kids right everyones got there own way when we go out our ferrets come 1st and im sure others will say the same working 1 ferret all day will take alot out of the little fella we prefer to take our full team out with us 2 jills 4 hobs that way we dont work them to hard we also take planty water for them (alot of our ground is sandy)

the other thing our permission has some big sets 20/30 holes if not more so 1 ferret would just get the runaround this tires them out we work 3 sometimes even 4 ferrets in the big sets that gets the job done quicker and doesnt stress/tires the ferrets out so i agree with wor kid but mate if 1 ferret all day does the job for you then crack on matey
