emeera 1 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Share Posted September 23, 2009 hey , as i didnt have the heart to give the grey up and have been working alot with her recently , shes now spot on with the lil dogs iv got , even got a photo of her and my pup in bed together :] anyway iv been taking her out with emeer , but when we get to obstacle's she cant get over them not even a tree trunk on the ground so i have to lift her up and heave her over , so im looking for tips on how to teach her to jump please :] because i dont really know as i just taught emeer to jump on the comand over by saying over and goodboy everytime he jumped over things in the garden , thanks in advance Quote Link to post Share on other sites

earthpig 0 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Share Posted September 23, 2009 Most important wait tikk mature enough their bones & joints are very fragile dont bother books vids etc they will come when their ready and find a place with out barb and just walk away dont go back once you start lifting thats it they will wait try a bit of sheep netting in garden or if you know a narrow ally etc try small to start and gradually increase ,but mine have always leap no probs from 6/7 mths on i have found it best to wait a bit they will sucseed better and now they jump for the hell of it on a walk out mine are 21 and 22 inch and jump as good as big dogs no probs with space to spare even on 5 bar gate,if their fit enough they will do it no probs Quote Link to post Share on other sites

J Darcy 5,871 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Share Posted September 23, 2009 Jumping is all about confidence. I , personally , would never leave a pup and walk away until it somehow scrambled over. This only panics them. They end up hung up on the wire. That well used phrase...Softly Softly Catchee Monkey has always been my own personal mantra, and i adhere to the thought of ensuring the pup is mature enough before i have it jumping. Im not too macho to pick my pup over fences. I once owned a pup and didnt do any jumping with him until he was about 8 or even 9 months of age. This was a little experiment.Sure, he had negotiated a few obsticles, and i do believe country walks with others dogs are very beneficial to a pup, it gets them traversing all manner of things without even realising it. But, maybe my methods won't work for you....... That pup was jumping good high, barb-tipped wire within six weeks..... Quote Link to post Share on other sites
