Recommended Posts

Just bin down the local park and my old pitch never takes feather, and there was a pigeon flapping n it couldnt fly my bitch thought it was a squirell and went 100 mph at it then came to a stop when she realised what it was, n me 3 n half month old pup followed her and when she stoppped he stopped and just was nipping at it but hardly shown any intrest what so ever, i know is so unberlievably early but it has made me think, i knw a lot of experienced lurchermen, being from derby, and there dogs were retreaving feather at four month old, what do people reckon, he'll just be fur and no feather?????

My male salxgrey never bothered with birds couldnt be less bothered till recently now hes hammering them every chance he gets and he only goes for what hes sure he will catch. My bitch loves birds and will have a go if she is close to them and retrieve them live to hand no problems. The pups far too young to tell wether or not it will or wont be a bird catcher

Get some wings off a dead bird, dry them out and stitch/tie them to a dummy. You'll puppy will soon be snapping up feather. DON'T forget that your puppy is still VERYVERYVERY young. My dog didn't touch feather until he was 18 months old, now he will take it at every opportunity.

This is a great thread, something Ive been wanting to know for a while, and never got round to asking, I'd love Lexy to take the odd duck / pheasant etc, Ive introduced her to swimming and she's now retrieving to hand, she swam after her dumbell for the first time this morning after many hours of letting her paddle, so what do you suggest, is there anyone kind enough to send me some duck / pheasant wings ? I'll course pay the postage
