rosspti 2
I have a two storey hutch for my two hobs. I don't have a litter tray, but they always go in the corner of the hutch under the stairs! I was thinking of maybe making a plywood box, a bit like a carry box (maybe no lid though) - but as a toilet for them. That way it could be just removed and tipped out when full. Better than a tray cause it would all be contained. What do you think? Edited August 26, 2009 by rosspti Quote Link to post

What do you think? i have same type of set up as yours & i adjusted mine in the corners & cut a square out of corner & replaced with galvanised mesh 3inch x 3 inch, then fixed two runners underneath for a slide in box like yours, as for keeping the litter tray still , can you not fasten it to your cage ?? you could put a brick in it but they will still try & drag it out & still crap in corner !! at least they are not crapping in the food bowl, yet regards john Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Just get rid of the tray and pile up some shavings in the toilet corner, they wont throw that about after they have dumped in it Quote Link to post

dazlw 1
i'll try and explain how best i got over this problem . first of all i bought a plastic washing up bowl the rectangle shaped one and then a piece of 3/4" square timber .cut 4 pieces of timber about 3" long, now place the bowl in the corner of the hutch now on the short side of the bowl sit a piece of wood on the top away from the corner of the hutch and pencil around the block of wood , drill 2 small pilot holes for screws. Now the tricky bit you need to put the block back in the pencil marks and screw from the outside with a couple of 3/4' screws to hold it place(could probably do with another pair of hands here).repeat this procedure on the long side of the bowl aswell.now the bowl can be slid into possition under the blocks. On the bottom of the hutch you need to do the same sort of thing but make a corner section in the blocks on the opposite corner of the bowl to the corner of the hutch , thus stopping the bowl from being slid out.your ferrets wont be able to moved the toilet but you with your super human strength will be able the lift the bowl over the stops as the plastic bowl will bend slightly and quite easily come out to be cleaned and just plop it back in.Cheers Daren Quote Link to post
