jimb 30
Why do you often see litters of pups for sale and bitches are a higher price than the dogs can any one enlighten me to the reason behind this ?
Kay 3,709
Perhaps its because they can go on to have pups thenselves in the future
snap 15
no reason at all with lurchers and terriers.just an excuse to charge more they should all be sold for the same price.thats my opinon anyway
gonetoearth 5,144
mine are allways the same price , FREE TO GOOD WORKING HOMESS
swamp rat 0
good question mate its a stupid thing to have them different prices you need a bitch to have pups but you need a dog to provide sperm they both play an equal part. you get good dogs and bitches and bad ones. both sexes should be the same price they both got the same chance to be good or bad workers. I think what happen was one day someone said I;ll see if I can get a bit more for these bitch pups and someone else saw the add an copied it. as simple as that people cant think of things for themselves they always have to copy what other peoples doing if they think it will work. same with all the ads that say these pups are bred in the purple or these pups will be good workers in the right hands. someone somwhere said that once and its stuck the copy cats say it everyone says it. if a litter of pups is so good whys all the mates of the breeder not been snatching his hand off to have one????? Milwr 33
Pedlar mentality, whoever gets the bitches could make money off pups so the puppy pedlar wants his "share"
coursing_lad 45
my brother bred a well bred litter of saluki pups , good coursing lines , instead of charging 200 a pup or 300 and so on , he asked £75 dog or bitch . regardless of sex , doesnt need high price , just to cover basic costs , decent worming ( panacur) dewclawed and so on , which is how it should be, regardless of good breeding , you dont breed to make money , just because your dogs are bred out of good gear doesnt mean you need to charge heaven and earth , also 9 homes were found previous to mating . didnt expect to have such a large litter of 12 . so only had to advertisde 3 pups . but for people who breed without any homes found , and have no idea were they are going when there ready to leave , and then put up 250 a pup , 300 bitch , and wonder why they are stuck with them , all best CL
J Darcy 5,871
Just another example of peddling JimB IMO. They just think everyone is like them. Why not breed and give the pups to good working homes. Make the dogs worthless in monitary terms. If dogs dont have a price then they won't get pinched and sold on. Still, each to their own i guess, and i re-iterate my plea to please press the report button when encountering anyone that appears to be selling lots of dogs on here. We will look into the matter. Many Thanks...JD
RossM 8,149
ive got 2 bitches had them since they were 6 weeks old and never paid a penny for either, offered money, but was flatly refused, IF i breed at any time i will give them away to friends and family WORKING homes only, if any left over i will sell on to cover the costs of food, upbringing etc
Neal 1,929
I heard that years ago it was the other way around, ie prices of dogs were higher than bitches. Apparently it was simply because, in general, dogs were viewed as better workers than bitches (I think it was referring to sheepdogs in particular though) whereas people generally prefer bitches now as they're regarded as easier to train. Not my opinion I hasten to add.
MRD 3
I've got a Lurcher bitch. She is comming up to 7 years old. I've never bred from her but I've said for the past 2 years that I want to breed from her as she does everything I want from a Working Lurcher but I just could'nt do with advertising the pups if she had more than 5 which would go to me and friends that's why I may not ever breed from her as I owned her parents and there parents, shame really. kinbow09 0
any excuse for an extra dollar if we buy in a dog or bitch, then we pay for the pleasure of working it, having it as a companion if said dog/bitch is worthy of breeding, an you wanna pup, i think they should be given away free of charge once youve had what you want, as for the expence of rearing pups, that was your choice to make so dont moan boot paying it unless you have a monster litter, the price of raising a litter aint far off what you would pay if you bought a pup in if no money ever changed hands, the working dog world would be a much better place JMHO Dotty i cant see why they should be the same price to me but some people think of the money not the dog a bitch is worth money i think it wrong my self and i wuld only breed for my own use and give pups to working homes for free
