As all of us are aware 'the last Tommy' Harry Patch passed away at Fletcher house nursing home in Wells somerset at the age of 111years old.

The last man alive to have seen combat in the trenches of WW1 today mad his final appearance in public at Wells cathedral.

Having paid tribute last week in wells cathedral we today also attended his funeral, literally thousands of people attended the service, which was relayed to the throng outside on a huge screen. Amongst the attendees were royalty by way of the Duchess of Cornwall HRH Camilla ,the services were all represented as were service charities and the Royal British legion.I lost count of the number of veterans i saw ,from all conflicts, sadly the veterans of the second world war are now fewer and fewer.

here's some pictures of the day.

Lest we never forget... these words are empty nowadays thanks to a largely pampered population who have never know such hardships as the men and women these great island nations have put to earth.

RIP to all who sacrificed their lives at the altar of peace. THANKYOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY :notworthy:

Harry will always be remembered as the Last Tommy. His generation gave so many and so much so that we can live today in a relatively free world.

They will never be forgotten while there is still one grateful and proud person in this country. Long may he Rest in Peace.

"They went with songs to the battle, they were young.

Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,

They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them."

Thank you for sharing that Fishfish
