D C C 0
Hi i'm looking into getting a working sighthound in a year or so and was wondering where you get them from and if places like greyhound rescue centres are suitable. The two breeds i am interested in are Whippets and Saluki and i will most likely be living in Southern England so the closer there the better. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks D C C Quote Link to post

Daveo 61
How longs abit of string mate. Some dogs are up for £50 some well bred coursing dogs can be £500 some mongrels go for £200 on here!!! There is a world of difference between a whippet and a saluki, do you intend to work the dog? if so what on? If its just a pet i would go for a whippet or even a retired greyhound You can pick up a 3 or 4 yr old retired track greyhound for peanuts and they make nice pets. Quote Link to post
halfx 3
theres plenty of peddlars, dreamers an bullshitters on here mate, they will sell anything and everything,do some home work before you listen to some of the silly c**ts on here.best of luck. Quote Link to post
cocker 2,655
i would narrow it down first and decide which breed would suit you best for what you intend to do, whippets and salukis are two totaly different types, find out which one you would like most, and then start looking for that type, all the best cocker Quote Link to post

Thanks D C C Look on here for pups mate and if there aren't any, give it 10 minutes then look again............ More pups on here than there are hairs in susan boyles eyebrows....... Don't buy a saluki cross though, not for your first dog.... Hard to find a decent one so no point in getting disappointed starting out... Quote Link to post
D C C 0
Thanks everyone, I never knew there were so many different ways of getting a running dog. I think i will go for a whippet because there the ones i've seen worked on rabbits and they look good at it. But i've got a year or two until i can even get into hunting (it's a long story) so i can do my homework and look around for the best. Thanks p.s- good call on Susan Boyle Quote Link to post
WILF 50,689
You can buy true working lurchers that are 110% guaranteed on all quarry day and night and only bred for own use from just about every c**t in the dogs for sale section Quote Link to post
artic 595
Read about them, and ask people who have them first. Bear in mind do you have the ground to work the dog, what ground is it (flinty etc), large open fields, small paddock type fields, can you afford to pay vet fees! You need to take all that into account. Hope you find a nice type to hunt with that suits you. The trend at the moment are those Bull x's, i hear you get 1 crate of Stella, and a large collar with the dogs name written in HUGE writting on it with each pup sold, but hurry, this offer ends in 2 weeks.
