Bankside stalking .

Recommended Posts

Down at Martins yesterday evening for a sit out on a bank for a buck /fox .

The farmer is fed up with foxes taking chickens so the control is carried out all year round now ,on sight .

Martin lead out on a bank behind me facing away whilst i faced a sun coated bank that just had to have a buck on sooner or later .Martin is the sort of lad who will put a guest in the best spot and tonight was no exception .No sooner had i got into position than a fox appeared opposite from behind a bush ,sat down and looked at me .I was already setting up the bipod so just a matter of turning it to face and fox number one was in the bag .I saw a doe appear over the crest of the bank but she was nervous ,she kept looking over her shoulder .She wandered up to the top ,running the last 10 yards .

After a long wait i decided on a stalk to the far side to see if there was a buck with her .Followed a sheep/deer track up to some hawthorn bushes and bumped a buck that was coming out of the woodland .He was a big body weight but thin antlers and not one Martin wants to keep on the ground but he departed barking .Headed back down the track to find a well grown fox cub strolling along away from me. I squeaked quietly and it stopped ,turned broadside at 20 yards and i shot it free hand .Back to my sitting spot and a while later a doe and buck came out .A young spiker that followed the doe footstep for footstep .I shouted and he stopped long enough for a chest shot at which he tumbled down the bank while the doe looked on ,only moving when i got up ,satisfied that he was dead .Glassed a pair of munties as it got dark but no shot presented itself .They dont stop long in the open here .Another cracking evening .Cheers mate .

After meeting up with Martin we saw this doe over a fence and completely oblivious to us, enabling me to get a pic on the phone .

Excellent write up and pics as usual FD, and Martin..... some of my ground is the same, fox after fox all the time, as soon as one is culled, the next moves in... more so in the winter right enough, but still a constant job to keep them in check!! Good shooting fellas!
