Is that what is also called a Slow Worm.........don't get to see many my way unfortunately.

Sure is :) (or snakes to the kiddies ;) ... We have loads, seems to be ideal ground for them here, south facing and lots of soft faulted rocks... Unfortunately lots fall prey to our strimmer :( I've been trying to persuade the hubby to leave the orchard do its natural thing this year, so to give them a break, but he's starting to niggle about it!

Crumbs, didn't realise so many of you hadn't seen them.... That one was a little babba too! They can get a fair bit longer and fatter than that. On a mission now to find you a biggy

Yep, you were correct Hector, its not overly difficult, but dont they match the colour of the dried out grass really well!?!

never pick one up by the tail as they reject them as a defence to escape any attach ,the tail keeps riggling for ages and still makes me cringe now when i see it ,the one in the bottom pic looks like he,s rejected his a long time ago and they can only do it once ..my lad kept some for years they eat worms and slugs mainly , do many people see any grass snakes ,for all my time in the fields i have never seen one
