Permission Letters

Recommended Posts

Just interested to know how many letters you guys have / are sending out before you get permission. I have some land in Pembrokeshire that I can shoot on when i'm there ( 4hours there in the car and 4 back so its holiday times only with the odd long weekend).

I have sent out about 45-50 letters around the Midlands / Warwickshire area and received only ONE reply...it said no. I am aware that it is not easy, it takes time, etc. etc. etc.... but i would be interested to know your experiences / stories. It's costing me an effing fortune in S.A.E's !!!! :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Cheers,

Dan

I used to go and see them in person mate, and found that most of the farmers are pretty cool about it. I have only ever asked a handful of farmers that I didn't know at all and only had one out of them (that I can remember said no). some have said yes but only to ferret, one said yes as long as my wifes car isn't outside the house, one guy saifd that his nephew already had the permission but that he was no good, so I could go as long as the lads van wasn't parked in a certain place. but most times i have approached people in person they have said yes. i think it helps if you are not dressed in camo etc (it looks like you have pre-empted their decision if you are)

instead of trying the SAE. try going through friends and contacts. try speaking to people you know or friends of friends, friend of parents etc etc.... that may have land even if they are nothing to do with shooting themselves. When there is a personal connection people are more likely to trust you and say yes.

ONce you get a couple of places and do a good job word of mouth should do the rest.

good luck with it.

chicken farms and pig farms r always good for the rats, and the farmers are usualy keen to let you at them. Have you got insurance, if u r a member of BASC u get 10mill liability (i think), that helps, because then u r not just some matey with a gun, u are a responsible shooter. good luck mate n keep trying!

All my shoots over the years have come from word of mouth.

It's amazed me how a friend of a friend knows this bloke etc. though some folks do look at you funny when shooting's mentioned!

Follow any lead, no matter how small it seem. It's worked for me.

Good luck, mate, and don't give up!

Cheers.
