I think I'm going to get a pure whippet at some point in the future, especially after seeing some of the decent looking workers on here. marko 30 Posted May 8, 2009 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 my friend has a laguna/nimrodel working whippet 21 inches works all day with the other dogs aswell as working all the cover and the whole woods if you let him has no prob with stamina and runs bunnys for fun so someone saying there knackered after a few rabs is wrong like all dogs they need a few minutes breather if have two running dogs the advantages are alternate slips bit more time to recover for dogs just get out and get bonding with the dog give as much of your time were possible to dog but dont forget to also look at stock breaking in the future if you are going out looking for permission. Guest gaz100604 Posted May 8, 2009 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 whippets imo are very tough little dogs and dont hav e probs with there feet or pick up injuries easily... they will have plenty stamina for a night lamping,great little ferreting dogs too.. i have heard all kinds of things that their legs break when they turn does make me laugh.... i worked my fella hard this season and didint pick up any trouble with his feet or any other injury... as for 3 runs and there knackered... well here ya go... Totally agree with you Gaz, most of the negative comments made about whippets are from folk who have never owned one. I like yourself work my dogs hard throughout the season, there also out twice a day every day of the year. You only get out what you put into a dog IMO. It's obvious the person who jacko2009 got his bitch from didn't have a clue, she's not even lead trained at 8 months old. I'm just pleased Jacko's got her now and he's making an effort with the bitch. you hear of folk leaving dogs in a run for 6 months before they start doing owt with them. then wondering why they can't do owt with them. the dogs are often advertised in the cuntrymans weekly or on forums stating untouched!!!!!. At 6 months a dog should be trained on and off the lead,stock trained and socialised with other dogs. Guest gaz100604 Posted May 8, 2009 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 yes totally agree with your point mate.. too many keep there dogs locked in runs from mon-fri and expect them to do the biz on the weekend... no matter what running dog you have or what breed is in them if you put in 100% into the dog then even if he is not from the best working stock around should still give you 100% in the field even if that means he catching half a dozen rabbits.... the state jacko got his whippet does not surprise me... and i do feel the comments on whippets can be a bit unfair as people go by what they see in that they look skinny n all that when actually after a har season with my fella he never picked up a knock... and that was lamping and ferreting between 3-5 times every week and road walked every day... you get out what you put in regardless the breed imo.
