  1. And another in the fence run today, bloody hell it's like a turkey shoot. Pulled all traps today as some snow due up here for the weekend into next week and I need paying for what's already up. So week off and time to get the greenhouse fired up and the tunnels fumigated.
  2. I think of the moler in two ways. The local guy that knows the land and fishes with a line in a sustainable manner with a decent humble touch. Or the deep sea trawler that comes through scraping the bed and taking all the profits before moving on to another county. Keep it local and honest is the way forward in my opinion, and that's after a lifetime in farming.
  3. This is the reason I'm keen on business cards to leave with a local client and to provide a rapid service for small recurring invasions. Big boy on the quad wont want to travel 40 mile for a couple of moles, whereas you will because that's the type of local service you provide.
  4. I know the feeling,...lol ----------------------- Always work 2 steps ahead when it comes to dealing with the farming community, it'll save you getting ripped off.
  5. Im well aware you have to be 'flexible', regards pricing. First big farm i done, 20 year ago.I got £4, a mole. lol Didnt have much of an idea, when the farmer asked how much i wanted to charge ? lol I suggested £3 a mole, he said " i will give you £4 " ----------------------- You got a decent one then, they are few and far between trust me.
  6. I still need paying for what's in the pic, never mind anything else lol.
  7. Yip sit back and let them sweat a tad.
  8. Need the Nitrogen on before the end of the month.
  9. There in may lay a problem lol,I know how these feckers brains work. The more you catch the cheaper they want it,so maybe time to back off a tad and let some new ones pop up so to speak.
  10. Thought I was finished here but 3 newcomers proved me wrong, lost a few with the wind and Basil must have shot off with them.
  11. You've just answered your own question The covers are useful in several ways. Firstly I can find them, and the customer knows exactly where they are so no traps will be run over by a lawn mower. They keep the rain off the traps so no soil is washed down off them. Sometimes I'll place Putanges under a clod of turf and mark it with a spot of orange paint or a small plastic flag, but in most jobs the covers are used over every trap. Makes things a lot easier in large gardens and paddocks. Fair play for small areas, but I've got acre after acre to cover on foot so no good to me.
  12. No molls I'm missing and they were back filled. Not sure I'm that bothered about finding them again lol.
  13. Mind I'm 3 traps down so the metal detector will be out on Saturday to find them.
  14. ----------------------- Wasn't a dig by any imagination, just why carry gear around to cover traps when your in a field full of grass that can be sliced and pancacked with your fist to make a cover. I've had the odd marker knocked over but never a trap fired by sheep. that's why I use a marker dot 2 m away to the north of every trap.
  15. Lifted 6 this morning shame they weren't 300 euro each id be off to euro Disney ffs.
  16. Anyway spade going in the vice tomorrow for some adaptations, hot blow rapid cold plunge and hammerited to see how it operates.
  17. Not in the heart it isn't, mad as feck when I get released from her upstairs. old is now 60 plus in my book and will be in yours when you reach 47.
  18. Not old 47 but years of rough going taking their toll on the hands and knee.
  19. True. I'll normally put ten Flatpacks, four Talpex and six Putanges in it to start a job along with enough covers for all the traps. If I need a few extra I'll fill a 20 litre paint bucket with traps and covers and take that too. If I go out in fields and don't have transport I take a fishing trolley with the Trug on top of a couple of 60 litre plastic boxes containing traps and covers. ----------------- What do you mean by covers you use,i understand a material to cover the trap run before covering. But why the need to cart more stuff around when your surrounded by cover material?
  20. am I right or pissing in the wind?
  21. I'm gunna cut the blade down to trowel size,so basically end up with a more substantial tool that has a trowel head.
  22. Trowel was useless last week as I was under the remnants of an old wall and deep finding the main run.
