  1. I never worry about percentages, especially with good quality raw food.

If the dog looks thin, feed it more, if it looks fat, feed it less :)

Season does affect mine, so I change times around. Normally Pi eats at the end of the day incase he's needed on the farm to work. In the heat though he has most of his food in the early morning and a snack at night. Then he finds a shady spot and naps through the heat of the day, and is ready to go again in the evening.

If I feed him late in the heat, he doesn't settle and then gets skinny or puke it up :/

  2. The old books used to advise against pork as it could carry the trichinosis parasite. Since it was eradicated from this country in the 80's (I believe;)) it is safe to feed british pork. I have no idea about imported meat though.

Pi likes it, and a good pigs foot is excellent gum/tooth massage. I wouldn't feed the bacon or ham bits that sometimes come in the bags I get from the butcher though.

  3. I made elderflower and strawberry cordial and elderflower and orange cordial. Delicious! Fab made with hot water for a cold too ;)

12 bottles made of each and 6 bottles of pear and ginger.

Got the cherries on for some syrup now, got me herbs hanging to dry.

Just found some wild valerian so going to get the roots to make my sleeping syrup :D

Chamomile, feverfew, yarrow, agrimony, hyssop, comfrey, motherwort and wood betony all stored away.

Rose petal wine bubbling away, off out tomorrow to get more elderflowers for wine.

    Been a busy few days!

  4. Check out the cages most farmed rabbits are kept in.

They take a social communual burrowing animal force it to live on a wire floor in solitary confinement.

Do feel guilty about eating supermarket rabbit! It's kept worse than battery hens ;(

If you have a shed and an area to make a secure pen, 2 does and one buck will give you all the meat you want.

    I have 2 enclosures.

the 1st is where the main colony is kept, bucks, does, kits all together. Then after the birth of the young I move the buck out, along with the older kits for company into the 2nd pen. The mothers tend to nest together and share feeding duties.

All the books say to keep well apart etc, but my buck loves the young ones and is forever playing with them and grooming them.

SPACE is what rabbits need. Space to be rabbits. A good varied diet of wild greens, enough that they can choose what they need. Hay and clean water. I feed pellets sparingly (a baked bean tin full between them twice a day) just enough to make sure they are keen for food and will come to a call if I need to shut them in.

Also they are bloody good converters of weeds into the finest compost, bonus!

  5. Goats are fab, but believe me they are far more intelligent than you would think lol!

My rabbits don't tend to carry too much fat, but then they are never shut in hutches so get plenty of exercise.

Dealing with flies is easy, muck out every day!

I get more flies on the elderflowers than I do my animals ;)

  6. I like both but there are bugger all wildies round here!

Feeding them this way gives them a slight gamey flavour but not too strong. I don't like to feed too much commercial feed to any of my animals, I don;t think they were designed to eat it. I get slower growth rates but tastier results and meat that i know is chemical free ;)

  7. i'm holding one doe back for breeding and have promised a kit to my neice. But yep, the rest and any future ones are for the pot!

I'm experimenting with different colours as well so I can tan the skins and make stuff with them.

I'm really liking the chinchilla colour in the middle of the 2nd pic, the buck is that colour so should get a few more.

i cull any runts for the ferrets, and the rest I will keep to 10 -12 weeks ;)

  8. I used to live 3 fields up from the villagers gate.

Went a couple of times but the hypocrisy (sp?) got me in the end.

I gave my ticket away this year. I shant go again.

My truck was painted green, does that count as graffiti?

There are Gypsies, there are new age travellers and there are about a million different people in between. Does it matter what colour your home is? If you like rainbow, paint it rainbow! My Roma mate loves her mirrored doors and crome, I can't stand them so I don't have them! She hates my 50's curtains and sheepskins, i love em!

Enough people are against those whos homes move or aren't made of bricks. Don't be arguing amongst ourselves lol! Live and let live.

Oh and my dog sleeps on me bed. It's warmer that way and he eats spiders ;)

  9. I don't drive, I walk or cycle. Cross country when possible.

However I do have one major complaint....

At night drivers that don't dip their lights for people walking/cycling. where there are no paths I have no choice but to use the road, I wear high viz so you can see me, but I kind of need my retinas intact if I am to be able to get out of your way!
