Only just getting into rabbit hunting properly lads. Picked up a few small permissions where i live. I have noticed that the rabbits are very lamp shy and i cant get close enough for a shot. My lamp on my gun however could possibly have guided the titanic around a dozen icebergs. I have been looking at investing in a nightvision scope. The youkon ones look alright. I was wondering if you guys have any experience with them or any other reccomendations instead? Or if a coloured filter or a lair of r lasses tights over the end to dim the light would help?

Preping And Eating What U Kill
ryaldinhio replied to ryaldinhio's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
This will probably sound stupid to you lads but when you say hang does that mean by the feet or by the head or does it not make a difference? Also is it in the shed in the dark, out side in light, or is hang just a reference to keeping i.e. a fridge???? -
Preping And Eating What U Kill

I dont like the sound of it myself! Main things i will be getting are rabbit pheasant pigeon and slight chance of a hare. -
Quick one for you lads. New to all this and as such i have had one rabbit and a pheasant which i have shot butchered(struggled) straight away and eaten straight away. Now when i read things on this forum it is saying rabbit should be hung for four days and i have heard pheasant should be hung too with guts in??? Some advice would be appreciated on how to prep and how to 'hang' different quarry. Also i did a rabbit stew and a pheasant curry, both were nice, any other good recipies would be appreciated. cheers ry

Change of job means i will no longer have time for my ferrets. i have a large double up n down hutch (will need a van to move) which will come with straw, saw dust, bowls bottles etc. Also half a bag of dry ferret food. A single box that is big enough for two. About 20purse nets and a bag for them. Couple bits of 4inch tube i have aquired as i was going to convert shed for them. Also one hob one jill ferret. The ferrets are listed in the free to good home aswell and i would ket them go on their own but obviously cant let the hutch and stuff go without the ferrets. Asking 140 for the setup.

ryaldinhio replied to a topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
One intact hob one jill free to good home. Unrelated pair. Not yet worked, only had them since back end of last year. Change of job on monday 24th feb means i will no longer have the time they deserve. Will come with half a bag of food. I am at Doncaster. -
New to having ferrets lads and due to recent work commitments i havent even had managed to get my two out once. i got the ferrets just before xmas and was regularly handling them both, one hob one jill. Since xmas i have been workin 12-16 hour shifts 7days a week. As such my time with the ferrets has been limited to feed fresh water clean hutch n back in. This has been done anything between 8pm and midnight so has been under torch light. Now the daft hours have stopped at work and im guna get back to handling them often. Now i went in tonight and had them out running around the shed a

Been looking into the options suggested on here lads (thanks by the way) and i am now weighing up wether its worth runing two vehicles. Keep the work car i have for the commute and i have been looking at gettin an isuzu trooper aswell. I reckon looking for something that will do both jobs there is goin to be comprimises on the off roading ability and the economy. Although i will have double insurance and tax etc i will be saving money on my weekly fuel bill. I think i would be better paying a bit more out and have two vehicles suited for purpose rather than trying to combine into one that

After some advice felas. Last year i moved into the sticks and now live down a dirt track. This goes hand in hand with wanting a 4 wheeled drive. However i comute about 15000 miles a year. Also i have a young family. I am after some ideas that could incorporate all these things? I have been looking at subaru forrester and impreza (not wrx) and putting some a/t tyres on but they only return about 28mpg. I was wondering if there were anyother similar vehicles to consider? i have considered having a car and an isuzu trooper but then its two tax two mot two insurance. . . . Which is why i am loo

Im assuming by that reply i should be looking to use dust free??? The saw dust i have definitely isnt dust free! Is the general feeling straw for bedding and wood shavings for hutch floor instead of sawdust???
-
What does miss feed every two week mean?
-
When i bought the hutch i have about 2 months ago from an ex ferret keeper he told me "this time of year clean em out every couple weeks they be alrate, every week in summer though" i do not work my ferrets yet and i am currently working myself about 70-80hours a week so struggle for time. However i go in n see the stinkers every night. Generally one night i will just fill up food and water. And following night i shut myself in the shed with them let them out of the hutch fill food and water and change the sawdust in the hutch where they have done their business and have about half hou

First ferrets fellas and im only learning so dont take chunks! Is there a grading system to the type of wood in the saw dust you use??? I live at doncaster does anyone have a good supplier around here?. . . . .for saw dust. Im not after cheapest option i dont mind paying for better stuff if it makes a difference to ferrets health/living?

Is she/he a pure whipet? Do u have any problems with the dog? I am considering a ferreting dog and always thought whippets and greyhounds were injury prone which is why lurchers came about??? I do apologise if i am wrong with this.

Think the 1% only applied to the first foxes they bred from. ahhh. Thatd make more sense. I didnt think that 1% after 50yrs would be very groundbreaking!!!
-
I just watched the silver fox video. I am no biologist or animal genesist or whatever them chaps are but from the outside looking in. . . . . If after 50years they are still only getting 1% of fox cubs that are not aggressive then surely this proves that it ISNT genetic??? Also the alterations in the foxes of getting shorter legs and tails than their wild counterpart, surely this is down to 7previous generations being raised in a 3ft square cage? Hence no need for long legs for running and digging etc and no need for a long tail for balance? And a dull coat is no longer needed for camo

Is this mink bigger than a large dog fox??????? In your use of the mink it is the predator but my thoughts are against a terrior the tables would be turned and the mink would now be the prey for the first time? So it would surely be new ground for the mink. A defensive attack is different to a predator attack. And theres not a lot that can defend against a good terrior. The size certainly wouldnt bother one and i dont think it would stop to ask how aggressive it was before the games commenced!

I do have some tyres knocking about actually. This could be my job for tommorow after work.
-
Vanman i have heard you mention tyres a few times, do u just lay them on the floor or tie them up like a swing? Sorry if that sounds daft.
-
Grey rake, good idea wi lino for set up i have. Thanks vanman, this is a relatively temporary measure. In the summer i am planning on building a brick built shed. Inside this i am goin to incorporate their hutches linked to an external court with some kind of shutter door system so i can close them in the hutches when i clean court and vice versa. This was just to get me through to summer so i can make a proper ferret mansion! also i have just spent half hour in the shed with them and both my jill and hob jumped back into the hutch went to the loo and jumped back out to carry on playi
