Morning all, Was having a chat with my uncle recently and as always we got on the subject of dogs, mainly lurchers and spaniels. Ive heard plenty of his stories throughout my life regarding lamping and coursing but never much on his times spent digging with terriers as was never a great interest of mine. I knew he did it but wasn't aware how much. After listening to several stories which are new to me it came to my attention he did it quite a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyway he left my house with "a passion for coursing 2" as said he'd like to read it. He's got a birthday coming up

Obviously don't know what parents looked like but yeah seen plenty like this on the lean side. Gonna keep feeding her good food though and regular exercise and hopefully have her in fine fettle soon.

Well she is officially with us now. Put on 2.1kg in first 2 weeks, finally able to go out this weekend so had her on a short walk yesterday. She still a flight risk and hesitant to come back close in so will be keeping her on long line and only letting her off on my permission where there is a couple of full enclosed fields.

I'll try keep the post updated to her progress, she's actually starting to stretch out now instead of being all hunched up so is nice to see her finding her feet a little bit. Cheers.

This was my initial thought but obviously can only base it on information the rescue people have provided us

Think Mrs wants to keep her around regardless what I think so I imagine we will be keeping her. Like you say hopefully I can get a good bond with her within the next few weeks and she will begin to trust us much more.
-
Thank you, time will tell I guess but she will have plenty of time put into her and be taken along nice a slowly.
-
If we decide to keep her then fingers crossed. From what we've been told there was several dogs of breeding age that were tied up and the guess is that it's a pup from 2 of those. Apparently a saluki, a whippet, a spaniel, a collie and a dachshund that we've been informed of. But as you say she looks like she's got a decent amount of saluki in her.

Can certainly be done then.

Mrs has taken in a foster dog from local charity as she knew id be happy to have it around. The pup has apparently been locked in a create since birth (thats what they have been told) currently estimated to be around 5 months old, emaciated and scared of people but loves other dogs and not fazed by kids at all. She is now getting more confident around us though and allowing us to stroke her and not bolting everytime we move. Her diet mainly consisted of white bread according to people who bred her so first thing we have done is get her on some decent food and try build her up. She could h

I completely agree with the day dog sentiment, for start it would be wasted due to fact I'm not gonna be chasing the 3 from 3 and i dont want to be wasting another dog thats got so much potential. The bitch I had was bred from 2 absolute dynamite dogs and not being able to do her justice really got to me so wouldn't want to go there again. I could be completely over thinking things and in fact "any old lurcher will do". But uts been good to hear what others think.

Got to admit I've never really been too struck on beddys, my mate had a beddy x and he's soft as butter and a lovely dog he just doesn't do anything for me in terms of owning 1, that said he doesn't work him so seeing 1 work might change my opinion
-
Jesus christ, didnt even offer to cook me dinner first, neanderthal!
-
Yeah potentially, must admit that's where I started searching again, have had head turned by few different types though
-
It's all in the details. Never been called churlish before, maybe your of softer soul than I first thought
-
Unfortunately not, this one whinges and whines when standing still for too long so won't be getting another until she passes incase the next 1 picks it up. Springer will be next spaniel though, in touch with a chap who breeds heavy set type so that's where I'll be going too.
-
Then I do apologise, I can see your continuing with the "serious" form though, you must be a changed man
-
She had turn and in the end was pts. Nothing injury related.
-
She was mainly saluki x grey but few other bits in the background. The breeding was top notch but I wasn't and sadly couldn't get her right

If you were as quick as your wit you wouldn't need a dog

She has "wobbly patella" on her back leg which causes her to limp when walking for too long, and will also "lock" her leg, this year she had mammary lumps removed and got spayed due to pyometra. I'm convince the spaying had caused her to loose drive and energy. She will still happily got nuts in beating line and still find birds and flushes brilliantly, just takes longer for her to recover now, hopefully next year I'll be able to find a small farm shoot and just do 1 day a week with her on smaller drives. If not then I'll be out rough shooting with her and and can do it at her own pace. Was r

Tbh I've got no real specific quarry, although if can fill the freezer then massive bonus. The 1 just lost was just my type of dog, and I don't mean in looks or "type", she was just a joy. Don't get me wrong it drove me crazy that I could never get her going and never managed to fill the freezer but we tried so bloody hard now she's gone and will eventually be replaced when the right pup is found, I want to make sure I'm not looking at it with blinkers on. I know everyone will have different opinions but it's been good to see what others think. Especially when they know exponentially m

8 years old now and unfortunately, likely to be her last in the beating line. Have noticed her slowing down considerably over the last 6-8 months, still absolutely loves it so will be a shame for us both as love watching this little girl work.

Makes sense in more ways than 1. 90% of what I'm seeing for sale though are heavy bull x's and I'm not convinced they are being bred for rabbits and rats. Got me wondering though if a particular "type" bring unwanted attention more than others . Thanks
