I cleaned mine out this morning, closed everything up, went in doors, made a cup of tea, looked out the window, thought 'what's the pup up to?' then realised she was playing with my jill. They were frolicking about in the snow, looked really sweet! I hadn't even noticed she'd got out

Sounds fantastic, can't wait to see the photos.

Here are some photos....... See - free running dog decal! This is the WORST area of rust: Think of it as a good working terrier - not beautiful, a bit scarred, but valiant and reliable There's also a decent Sony CD player which I'll leave in it if the offer is reasonable

i'm bollixed altogether,i've a russel and a small cock You think that's bad - I've got a russel and NO cock

Of course she was, and is happy to take responsibility for any harm he's done by paying compensation. As has been said several times, the dog will not be off lead again.
-
Just going to say this one more time - she knew he had poor recall but did not know he wasn't stock safe. She's had him on lead for several weeks working on recall in enclosed areas. He was in a TOWN PARK which many people use because it's regarded as a safe dog walking area and he ran out of it and then some considerable distance to reach the sheep. She's not an idiot.

Well, good news all round. I think the police probably talked a bit of sense into the farmer and he's agreed to settle outof court and say no more about it. That seems fair to both sides to me. Thanks everyone for all your help, one of my dogs isn't reliable around sheep sp I really felt for this woman, could have been in her position with a bit of bad luck. Round here I think it's about £50 for a lamb and very little for a ewe.

macberran I agree stock worrying is very serious and so does the owner of this dog. The dog will never be off lead again. She wasn't working the dog, she was walking him in a town park no where near stock after weeks and weeks of working on his recall in what she and everyone else thought was a safe place. Hescarpered, ran a bloody long way and got into mischief (allegedly). If the dog worrying the sheep had been shot in the act of doing it I don't believe shewould have complained and nor would I. However, the farmer has been offered compensation for his losses and received assurances about th

Thanks everyone. She's emailed Clive Rees. She can easily provide evidence that she was consulting behaviourists and other experts prior to the alleged incident. I also think she could say she offered compensation because she felt frightened and intimidated rather than because she was necessarily accepting liability, especially since the police woke her up late at night to interview her - she can say she was confused and half asleep and scared I think. Anyway, many thanks for all the advice, she's found it helpful and will get it sorted. Given that this dog seems to run away, I suppose the ris

If you're feeding him raw rabbit without freezing it first he's probably picking up worms from them. Worm him, but use a good quality wormer, not stuff from the pet shop - it's usually not very effective. If you want to put wait o him, feed him lamb and tripe - usually does the trick
-
I don't know - he returned to his owner injured and by the time I saw him he'd been stitched up. Do you think it's significant?
-
I thought it was odd too but it seems the farmer called the police, the police rang the local vets and the vets are compelled to give contact info if they have it? I don't take stock worrying lightly but it all seems really heavy handed to me - especially turning up on the woman's doorstep late at night like they were going on a drugs raid. The police round here clearly haven't got enough to do.......I guess the farmer must have seen the dog was injured and anticipated that it would turn up for vet treatment? It was severely torn. The woman in question is reliable though so if there's any fun

Thanks for the advice and the contact info too. I agree that if it's a question of a face to face row with a farmer you step between him and your dog, challenge him to show evidence, tell him to f*ck off and then get on with sorting your dog out. However, now the police are involved and there's the possibility of legal proceedings I guess it's less straight forward. The farmer in question seems to be exptremely vindictive given he didn't actually lose a sheep, has been offered compensation and received assurances that the dog allegedly guilty will be kept on lead and seen by an expert behaviou

A friend's dog ran off recently and returned very ripped up. She took it to the vet for treatment and the vet said they'd had a call from the police. A farmer had reported a dog in his sheep at the time when this dog had run off. The description sounds like her dog so it's probably him,. The vet passed her contact details on and last night the police got her out of bed at nearly midnight to interview her about it. A few sheep had been bitten and the farmer had given them antibiotic jabs but not needed to take them to the vet. She has offered to pay compensation, vowed to keep the dog muzzled

Here's the link for Lurcher Search http://www.lurcher.org/lsuk/ Make sure to actually visit the local pounds as well, don't rely on phone calls - they don't always know what they've got.....

Could you give me an idea of the postage on the shovel please?

I agree that can be a real problem. Just for the record though, Lurcher Link is run entirely by volunteers. No one involved makes any money whatsoever out of it and all donations get spent on the dogs

Help needed in New Forest area - NOW FOUND (not alive)
Scallywag replied to lurcherlass's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There's a request out for help this weekend .............. Right we can only hope and continue praying that this girl is home by then BUT we need to start making some plans for the weekend if she isnt. The weekends being the time that most people obviously are off work and can get to a further area to help us out. We are urging as many people as humanly possible to join us Saturday and Sunday to literally do a finger tip search of the area. The more people we have out on the ground the more we can concentrate our efforts on the dense areas. We need BIG POWERFUL flash torches -
