  1. If your looking for a dog that will deter a burglar I'd be looking at a german shepherd, doberman, rottweiler or something 'scary looking' along those lines. If your looking something to just alert you a terrier is the way to go, mine barks even if there's someone 40 yards from the house the wee shite. I wouldn't depend on any dog to attack them because some just don't have it in them and I'm not sure where you would stand legally if it did. That being said a relative of mine had his garage broken into and his japanese akita didn't stop them. I think once you've been stolen from its a
  2. Hope this doesn't last long well or I think I'll lose the plot lol. After me singing her praises saying how great she was too, well she hasn't lost the recall and she's been broke to horses, she's also jumping well so alls not so bad
  3. Her recall is great, she'll come back everytime I call her, just not when she has something in her mouth lol
  4. She has a good bit of collie in her, if tried her with another dog around and without it doesn't really matter. She will retrieve if we're in a narrow place but as soon as she gets to you she will drop it at your feet, I'd rather she would wait til I took it off her though...
  5. As the title says, my 5/6 month old pup won't retrieve, I've been trying for a few weeks now and still nothing. I had tried when she was a bit younger and it was the same. Doesn't matter how much you encourage her to come back with it once she has whatever you throw in her mouth she's off with it with no interest to come back to you. I've tried squating down, lying down on the ground, running back from her, turning and running away, lots of encouragement and treats but she just runs in circles or in the opposite direction. Really getting fed up with her now, any advice?
  6. Great looking pup you've got there, atb with him
  7. Spoke too soon, came home the day and she had wrecked the place. Complete destroyed the bed that cost me £60, then took her out and she was acting a wee c*nt on and off lead. Wouldn't even retrieve, wee bitch.
  8. I worked with a trainer for a few years, bread was a good part of their diet. As well as chicken, horse, tripe, dry greyhound dog food, pasta, tuna, all sorts of veg... Everything basically, it all went in the pot. Not a skinny dog in sight You could try feeding satin balls? Here's a recipe for them- http://www.dogforum.net/dog-frequently-asked-questions/5191-how-make-satin-balls-fat-balls.html
  9. I tried the old "aw look how cute it is" method, thought it was bulletproof but did it work? Aye right! Was kicked out for 2 months til the thing was old enough to be put outside lol
  10. Thanks She rarely puts a foot wrong and at 5 months is already better trained than the jack, took them both out the other day and off he went across the fields the wee f*cker. The pup never left my side.
  11. Few more pics of her, over the moon with her at the min
  12. Took her out today just herself and came back very pleased, she thought about running off to investigate a couple times but a whistle was all it took for her to turn back. For a dog that's bred to run she's been the easiest to train to come back, hopefully I haven't spoke too soon! Her retrieves going well too but struggling to get her to bring it back to hand instead of dropping it 2 feet away. Took the cam but of course the laptop has decided it needs a holiday so they will have to wait lol
  13. Thanks folks, as for the Jack he's a bit on the plump side at the min. He doesn't do much asides keep the mice at bay in the yard lol
  14. I've been a member a few months mooching around reading peoples topics etc, I thought I'd share a few pics of my new pup. I bought her a couple months ago, she was supposed to be 8 weeks but it doubt she was anymore than 5 or 6. She was riddled with worms, skin and bone, and didn't even have the strength to stand up straight but after virtually nursing her back to full health she has turned out to be a great pup, very smart too. Sometimes too smart for her own good lol She's collie x grey x whippet, unsure how much of each and she stands 17/18" at 4 months, any ideas what she'll make?
  15. Some great snaps in there, love the one of the beltie and the deer among the trees.
  16. I feel the same about my pup sometimes, you'd think its wired to a cornflakes box. Plenty of exercise and a good quality food generally does the trick though
  17. Mine live out but im out most the day with them in the yard. They're well fed and looked after and their pen is kept clean., I've tried them both in the house but neither like it. I hate to see a dog cooped up in the house or pen. In the house I live in atm I'd say I could keep 3 full grown lurchers but then again a woman a few doors down has 8 springers in the house and its not the cleanest Don't think it really matters where you keep them as long as they're fed/watered,exercised,kept clean and warm
  18. My 2 year old jack russell and my 4 month old collie x grey
  19. Nice looking pups would love to see how they turned out
