  1. 'mudman at about what age/time should i remove the bits at' The bits should really be removed just before they are put into the release pen i.e. 6-7 weeks old. Once they are in the pen then feather pecking should be much less of a problem. The other thing is once they are in the big pen it is generally just about impossible to catch them all back up again. Has anyone heard of releasing wild american turkeys??? I've been offered a few poults and was wondering if it was a goer. Not really for shooting purposes, more for aesthetic qualities, but if they did hold and fly then they would be
  2. Sounds like a decent enough size for the birds you have in it. Like mentioned above though it appears as if it could do with a bit more ground cover, once the birds are out you can try to plant a good number of bramble suckers. Also make sure all the bits are out before you release them. I'm getting something a bit different for my pen tomorrow, 10 american wild turkey poults!! They supposedly fly well and hold well. The pheasants arrive next week.
  3. Aye, you could well be right. I am working away for a while now and do not have the traps at hand, but they could well not be be Springers either thinking about it. One thing is for certain though they are not the same quality as Fenns. I had mine in a bucket of cold tea for a couple of days, that has taken the shine off them, have to agree about the chains aswell.

  5. Well, they will be expensive if they are priced anything like here in the UK @ £1 a bang. But they are among the best of the non toxic loads available with almost identical performance to lead. I used them for quite a few years but moved to steel for ducks and hevi shot for geese. If my shots were to be at range then I would use tungsten for duck, but most of my ducking is pretty close range, teal and wigeon at last light generally.
  6. I applied for an FAC last year and included maps of the areas I had permission over. I just photocopied and slightly enlarged the appropriate sections of an ordnance survey map, then highlighted the boundaries of the farm(s) with marker pen. Try to make it easy as possible for Mr. Plod. My application was successful first time round for a .243 + moderator, but it did take ages to come through, evidently it got passed from desk to desk until it landed with a P.C who thought he could deal with it. Great guy who sorted me out quite quickly once he got the application. I just wish they were b
