  1. It's hard to tell but is it a chocolate coloured terrier or a white terrier covered in soil Blaise ? Was it a handy dig ? Yes it's a chocolate coloured terrier. It was an easy dig, lot of roots but just one foot to dig.
  2. Out with my son Fernand and his young bitch. Monthelie, 11 months, first dig, first badger. Great hope.
  3. Women and childs were on the left.
  4. Since Middle Ages (813), Governement recruits some hunters to be lieutenant de louveterie. In 2017, we are more than one thousand. We are able to do the job when State want to organize a cull (wild boar, badger, fox, deer, cat... and sometimes wolf). Most of the time, concerning fox or badger, a local team is asked to control. It's the best way. For railway or airport, some diggers or hunters are professionnal. But very few.
  5. Once we have the relevant licenses, we can hunt during the open season without anymore problem. Just to be agreed with land's owner. At the end of the season, each Master must informe how many badgers catched (sex ratio, age ratio).
  6. May be, but you risk big problems. I think most of us have the licenses. In a team, only the master need licenses. Is a license hard to get and what requirements do you need to meet to get one? I love how the sport is conducted in France Yes It's quite hard if you want to become a Master of a team (Maître d'équipage). You have to prove your personal abilities (hunting experiences), abilities of our lads, abilities of your dogs (minimum 3 dogs breed teckel or terrier). In fact, each new master has been hunting before in another team. You can't begin without experiences. You

  8. We don't need fighting dogs, I don't want it. Courageous yes, steady worker yes, fighter no. I hunt badger, some places are hard to dig. Some hunts need 3 or 4 hours, few times more. Dog has to be able to bark near the badger for a long time.
  9. We've 9 Patterdales, 7 in my kennel and 2 in a friend's kennel. When we are digging, just one dog in the set.
  10. Morning, we dug twice in the crop for farmers. four badgers. Afternoon, we dug in a hangar. There was straw balls for a long time, badgers found a sweet home. Two females and five youngs. We have no tuberculosis in this area.
  11. Yes of course, digging badger when season's closed is forbidden. You can be prosecuted. Pay a fine and withdrawal of hunting license. Some have been caught. I remember a young master, he was beginning. He'd been asked for digging foxes in march. During the dig, they found a badger. The farmer wanted to kill it, they did it. Infortunately, they were under surveillance. The next day, some rural police came to dig in the same place in order to control. Badger had been found. This young master will never ever hunt.
  12. Badger resisted to the bitch in narrow angles or little crosses. We dug three times. When we're arrived top to the dog, badger moved to another narrow angle. This badger was aggressive. My bitch worked during 4h30 near the animal. I retrieved her on the last hole when we broke exactly beetween dog and badger. In this area, most of the hunters hunt big games with little dogs (teckels, jack russell, jagd...). Often, these dogs are chasing badgers. Badgers are very clever with dogs, they've learned how to manage dogs.
  13. Saturday, four dogs, four digs, four badgers. Nice place. Sunday, one bitch in a large place, beautiful forest. Badger was too smart, we came home empty-handed.
  14. Opening meeting, two badgers. The female hadn't any young this season. The tunnel is rebuilted with some roof tiles. Enzo
  15. The beginning of the season is a matter ever debated. Each year anti try to change but the court's last decisions are in favour of the middle of may. Why ? First, general principles concerning hunting. We have a great experience with managing big games. If you want to keep healthy population, you have to respect male/female ratio and age ratio. So you have to kill approximatevely 1/3 male adult, 1/3 femal adult, 1/3 young. You have to respect similar principles with badger. Secondly, the peculiar case of badger. Rut and birth are in the same period , beginning of february. It's clearly

  18. This week, it becomes colder. -10°c each morning. Water for dogs is freezed in the kennel.
  19. These were the last hunts of the season. Three successful hunts, four badgers.
  20. If a dog go out fast to go back down earth immediately, no matter. But if a dog go out without a strong wish to hunt, dog's at leash. How can I say the problem come from the dog or from the earth ? It depends of work. This season, we have 92 attacks (92 time a dog had worked), we catched 74 badgers. Be careful, we had more fails than 18 (92-74) because sometimes we can catch more than one during the hunt of a dog.
  21. brilliant blaise, good to see breeds that's been ruined and on the dole here in the uk doing a bit abroad. It would be a good place to get the start of working lines to put back into uk stock. I also applaud the men in France working their Fox Terriers but would add that dogs of that physical type were never worked in the UK or Ireland. Of course dogs called Fox Terriers were worked at one time but they were not of the type seen in the photographs on this thread. This type is a product of the show ring and was developed by KC breeders long after dogs being called Fox Terriers were to be fou
