  1. I use a mora knife, they are very good and very sharp! Try and get the rubber handled type instead of the plastic.
  2. I watched this the other night, training methods in your other videos are great. Credit to you, would love to see a mink in action!
  3. I was going to go out last weekend but took a walk round where I got permission and its still pretty overgrown, maybe just wait until the end of the month. Managed to get permission from 3 farms which are side by side so I will be out for all day affiars!!
  4. considering going out this weekend myself! Ive never been out this early. Other people seem to get away with it
  5. If at all possible try and meet up with someone to go along with, they will have the instinct in them but its a good idea if they're shown but one already working. If not then aslong as you have nets, carry box and permission just give it ago by yourself. Bring a spade also. When the first rabbit is out and in the net they will soon pick it up them selves. ATB
  6. I tend to lookout for an active ferret, bright eyes wet nose clean fur . You can't go wrong.
  7. Any one in NI got a ferret finder for sale. Any type or condition as long as it works and reasonably priced.
  8. A friend of mine had a jill it was 9 years old. Was a family pet until it was 3 and spend the other 6 as a worker and could work with the best of them.. Just goes to show its in them, her also took 2 litters from her
  9. that is my type of staff mate. Alot like my own, except i think the pic i posted makes her look alot bigger.... The camera has added a few pounds lol Have a friend with a staff from champion show lines, paid big money for him but I wouldnt have the thing about me. Hes a really obediant dog but not agile at all and at its fittest you would think hes gonna have a heart attack my bitch would out run him any day. but i suppose thats wat you get from show lines
  10. Im just thinking about it for the speed... Ive tried her with rabbit using the longnets and its the turning that throws her off, because shes slim it gives her more speed than ur normal staffy. But from now til then I could have a decent pup bought, who knows !!
  11. are you not running the risk of having c sections doing it that way :hmm: wouldnt have thought it was the done thing :hmm: I would of thought a staff bitch would be ok with the pups. Think a whippet bitch would struggle pushing out a staff litter
  12. what qualities do you think she would bring to the mating??? Shes a very keen dog, shes goes out ratting and she is very quick for a staff. I think the picture make her look alot bigger thn what she really is. She can run all dog and fit as a fiddle
  13. Thinking about it she's not due for season until December time if she's on time... Never happens!! Would like to see a few pics but, jus to see what they turn out like
  14. I've been thinking about breeding my staffy bitch to a whippet and I'm just wanting to see if any of you guys have any or any pics? Do you think a straight cross would be any good for ferreting? The picture is my bitch. She's very slim and athletic for a pure breed staff. Hope the picture loads, I'm kinda new lol
  15. Thanks for all the opinions. Def think im gona stick with a small whippet. Im gona have to go further afield not many whippets about my area
  16. Thanks for the info guys! Is there anyone on her from Northern ireland that has any?
  17. Yea ive been told to try out saluki crosses. The ground where i go is flat. I understand about whippets weak paws and thats what im abit worried about. Ive also been told a whippet/bedlington is another good dog. I think its because the whippet is small, that why im interested in them. Thanks
  18. Hi i'm looking into getting a whippet for next season to use with my ferret. I have never used a dog out hunting and i'm just wanting to know if they are a good dog to start of with. I hunt on ground that is very open with not alot of bush about so there is plenty of room for some great runs. Thanks Gavin
  19. Hi my name is Gavin, live in Larne Co. Antrim. Im just getting back into the world of fieldsports after spending alot of my childhood doing it. I used to go out with my Dad most saturdays in the season with our ferrets and his gun. I love it! But after different reasons and my Dad working alot it just sort of fizzed out and he never renewd his license and sold his gun, leaving me with know one to take me out so I just stopped. But now im looking to get back into it and at 25 years old i feel like a bit of a beginner again!! Luckily my wifes uncle is big into this so im gona get one of this yea
