For The Lads Who Keep Pigs
unclepesta replied to Rat face's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
the saddleback cross large white is a nice pig.. nice bit of fat and good taste if reared and fed right nice pigs and easy. home reared with some nice extras gives a good flavour and a happy pig. fat = flavour. -
ficam is good enough on ebay pfs you got flea creep alpha burns em so sometimes they creep and take a day or so to die back..you wont get it on every job by any means but it happens with agitating insecticides. permethrin and bendiocarb is still good..bendiocarb gives a more settled treatment in my opinion..remember cats tho and fish tanks ect ive not needed igr but im sure it can have its place in the mix.. i just have not needed it yet i think i would use it in places where reinfestation is a ongoing risk. i use a oil based permethrin if i get waves of fleas its instant kno

unclepesta replied to unclepesta's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control

Fox Snaring. Swivel Strength
unclepesta replied to unclepesta's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
heritage i think its a minefield so many variables they are testing lots and are still looking at breaking strains and reliability's probably to influence that proposal if they find the answer. i got shackles so im not worried about holding em im just poking a technical point that might come into play with minimum requirements as there only comment is 'strong' at present for swivels.. strong could mean 40lb breaking.. a novice could go buy some thinking a fox aint gonna weigh 30lb like fishing.. he might still catch and hold it but it might give.. then he is in the dock saying i used a str -

Fox Snaring. Swivel Strength
unclepesta replied to unclepesta's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i think the new code of practice is on its way in england.. i had a chat with a fellow about swivels today and he said look somewhere between the cable strength and the breakaway strength at the collar. so i suppose it will be between 208kg and whatever the breakaway strength is gonna be set at. apparently breakaways may require refinement to a more reliable breaking strain...dont quote me i think 35kg on the collar is in the region for the breakaway..so around a 100kg on the snare swivel so its stronger than the breakaway. obviously the anchor one can be heavier. the old wire -
anyone know if there is a minimum breaking strain on barrel swivels?? is there a minimum in any codes?i dont see much about them anywhere on here.

i often wondered if a drop box could be used in the middle of a area where rabbits feed and around warrens..basically i noticed how rabbits play this time of year.i thought just leave the tunnel exposed above ground let them skip and play in and around tunnel then set the trap to catch..a few carrots.. it might be a good for pickin up a few without relying on funneling them and fencing... i expect chaps have done this somewhere or had a go. thats the trouble with killing animals for carcass this time of year heat and flys.. even though live catching can be more work its nice to see the rab

thanks colin about the oil with the piss.. i think i prefer that to add some body rather than glycerine even though its basically similar product.. somehow that veggie we cook with has something dogs and such really like so its a food and gland teaser. i got loads of glycerine i use it to thicken ink and to hold pigments.. but i just never bothered with it in piss i heard loads use it.. if i had some piss in a can or something sat for a while i would put a little water in just to give me a little extra back.but i will quit that and stay pure even if evaporated and strong enough to put wate

thanks colin im on it tomorrow..i had some micro's arrive so i made a few up and there out tomorrow..along with chip shop sludge and some nice extras. i will harvest some added lure from these ones i can use a bit in the cages to help hide the old spice smell .

thanks guys im gonna cut a load out and jar.. i got some glycol and preserve i dont normally bother with the glyerine but im told its good to put some in if its freezing weather so i will use some this go round so its good to go no matter what the weather. the standard piss i normally put 50% water with some salt i suppose glycerine would be good in that too.. would you dilute the piss some old fellow i know said dont.

Another 'big Money', Rat Job !
unclepesta replied to earth-thrower's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
just a way out thought phil nothing serious its a done deal for them rats i expect.. my stupid comment came from the fact that i noticed the place has few reptiles and the rats dont have many predators i expect the adder would enjoy a nice nest of pinkies yummy yummy -
i know these are not necessary but has anyone on here got any good experience with lures and there making. im mainly interested in predator stuff like fox. from piss to glands or food lures.. any favourites?i like to here about the country foxes they seem more danger savvy so can be harder to pick up. i ask because im snaring a fair few foxes and just wanted to harvest stuff like glands ect instead of wasting them.. this season im gonna start on the furs instead of wasting as well.
