Roy is still busy with imprint Goshawks at the minute as well as feeding the 60+ hawks, eagles and falcons he has. Other than this still out shooting and filming for Fieldsports as ever. I was at his a couple of days back and as usual up to his armpits with everything. Alex
  3. Very true about the prices of Goshawks, sadly AI has made it so easy for Goshawks to be bred putting them in the same league as Harris's. I reckon in a year or 2 they will be the same price or as near as dam it. it won't change until there is some sort of regulation in breeding and breeders having to pay an annual fee for the privilege of breeding and selling hawks n falcons. I know things are tight enough for people buying hawks and every other BOP but the main point should be making BOP expensive enough to ensure people are less likely to play about and look after their birds. it should a
  4. I couldn't be without them in the field, got some much ground to cover and they provide so much more for the hawk or the gun. Looking forward to the next set of pups from the pair, I will be keeping one back for definite after the reports from the owners. ATB Alex
  5. Up n away Mischka on a lovely point on a Cock Pheasant With her first litter and Bomber the Sire Bomber again on a covey of Frenchmen ended with a Goshawk chasing them out of sight. ATB Alex
  6. just thought I would stick up a few pics of my GSPs the black dog Bomber is used both as a falconry dog with my liver Bitch and as a gun dog, pointing flushing and retrieving. I have tried Mischka with the gun working up from an air rifle through to starting pistol and she will not settle, but Bomber from day 1 has never batted an eyelid and has happily worked both land including very thick cover and water including retrieves from both. pointing on a covey of Greys this time creeping up on a woodcock which snuck out before it was worth slipping, would have been perfect for a gun.
  7. Sodding poser! His first game bird with his hunting partner or his partner in crime. day after collection, a pity he had a bit of a skin head, which is finally got a few feathers on it. ATB Alex
  8. From a very interesting days hawking on steep chalk downs great hawking here as you can get 60 to yards behind the warrens and some amazing long slips and chases. Different bird (Maya female Harris) but you get the idea of the land. There's about 6 miles of hillside like this on one of the farms a bit hairy running down it.. A wee video on a cracking day out, ended up knackered after it. This was the easiest of runs for the fat lad (me) looking through a few more.
  9. More pics from through the year A few more to go.
  10. Hows tricks Shay, good to see you back on and sorry to hear you've had a bit of a bad time. I had a fair bit of time out on here as well and enjoying being back on. Now shooting with a Brocock Sentinel 177 and loving every minute. Be good to catch up at some point. ATB Alex
  11. Had a nice morning out with the rifle, dogs and the trusty 4x4. First farmyard was dead all cleaned up so nowt for the woodies to eat. Moved on to the next and there were a few about so parked up about 50m away from the silo and grain store. had 22 shots in total sadly 2 that were shot on the roof ended up in the gutter and a woodie flew off then suddenly folded and dropped but was in an area I can't access. but other than that was a cracking morning out. Think it was 14 woodies, 6 doves and 2 ferals for the ferrets. Photo pants quality as my usual phone in getting repaired and using a s

  13. Its a single shot PCP and if it shoots as well hunting as it did while zeroing then it won't go far wrong. It will be kept as clean and as safe as possible. Alex
  14. Well collected the Sentinel yesterday and after getting used to the rifle cocking mechanism, away I went to zero the rifle in, took 4 shots till it was perfectly on the bull at 35m so fired a few out to 45 then 50m all falling perfectly. Only fired 20 or so shots through it before a final chrono check and bang on 11.65 Ft Lbs so well pleased. Will have it out over the next week plaguing the local pigeon population. Alex
  15. They are cracking receivers, used one for 5 years on 216 and with a Scout. Very easy to use however get plenty of practice in with it, get friends/family to hide the transmitter in all sorts of places so you get used to the different levels of signal you get with it.. Another thing to used to with it is triangulation for searching over a longer distance rather than just pointing and following. I moved up to the 5000 channel version and other than some major issues due to it being stolen by the seller I couldn't have been happier with the system. This season will be back to the 2 channel 216

If you need a contact number to get it from the source let me know, also shouldn't be too long before the final edit is done on the sequel and the footage is truly amazing. Alex
  17. I have 2 Webley filling probes here, 1 has slight use the other unused. Open to sensible offers or will swap for a decent small sheathed hunting knife. Alex
  18. All fine and well that JB guarantees for life but worth nowt to the owner if something else goes wrong and you end up footing the bill for a repair during the warranty period for the manufacturer. For me I wouldn't let anyone near a new rifle
  19. I have a good mate locally who has an R10 Mk 2 and at 40m is getting pretty much pellet on pellet but for some strange reason is sending his rifle to be blueprinted, personally I think he's mad. For me if it's good enough out of the box and proves it on the range why the hell should anyone be playing around with the rifle. Anything that costs anywhere near as an R10 should need nothing done to it unless is develops a fault, then its back to the manufacturer. Also how does it affect the warranty if it's blueprinted??
  20. Is there anyone on here who has a Brocock Sentinel, they were released as a limited edition of 100 only in 177. I am collecting one later this week and looking to see if anyone has any experience of one. They look nice and are extremely light which for me is a huge plus. over to anyone else. Alex
  21. I am swapping over to 177 for this very reason that they are less affected than .22. Also my main quarry is wood pigeons mainly high up in trees. Yes .22 has a greater stopping power at shorter ranges of under 30m, but a well placed 177 at 40 or 50 will drop bunnies etc very easily. Having a pellet that gives you the flatter trajectory is a far easier way to ensure full bags. ATB Alex
  22. My girl on her eggs this season, the last time I will see her on any. http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/Islathegos/?action=view&current=MOV00293.mp4 and big bad Bomber my GSP http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/Islathegos/?action=view&current=MOV00234.mp4 and a lovely picture of Bomber backing up Ash's bitch on a cracking day out with Ash's gos Luja taking an amazing flight on Greys taking them on to 100 feet up. His bird is the first invited hawk to catch any on my land, very very fast birds and Luja was a match for them. Finally Tiree hot on the hee
  23. TY Tony. I have put a hell of a lot of time into the bird, and there's one thing I hate to see is a possessive hawk on a kill. I try not to go for multiple kills far at least the first month, and as a wee trick I allow him to pluck all he wants then introduce a measured amount of chopped bunny with plenty of casting on the kill and allow him to gorge on the bunny and when he's done give him a front bunny paw to really top him off. But in reality he's had maybe 70 to 80g of real food and a huge crop for it. Always a happy hawk with a full crop. ATb Alex
  24. Yep, the police and all the rifle shops within 50 miles do as well. just hoping she turns up again. it happened yesterday while we were away for the day. Taken all the electrical stuff and some jewellery all this covered but not the rifle. Totally gutted. Alex
  25. He is a cracking bird and as easy going as hell unless your running or flying away from him, but was a sod for damaging feather by going after bunnies more like a Red Tail battering through any cover to get at them, and Andy has been great to teach and is like a sponge soaking everything in, all he has to master now is leather craft and he'll be sorted. Will be keeping a close eye on him through this season and he knows I am literally just round the corner (400m away). Alex
