  1. Depends on the RFD. One local RFD openly states that they do not price match and charge £40 to receive a secondhand firearm from another dealer. I tend to use a different guy who is competive, friendly and will put you off from buying something he feels is unsuitable for your needs. Nick
  2. If you take it to Spain, expect to be laughed at. I guess Mitsubishi didn't understand the meaning of the name Mitsubishi Wan***r isn't exactly calculated to help sales! Nick
  3. I have just sold the nice little HW25 that I bought for my son when he was 8. At first he couldn't cock it but that wasn't an issue since he was always supervised when using it. If you look about there must be some good second hand examples for sale that have seen relatively little use. Nick
  4. Thanks Davy - more options than I realised! Nick
  5. Having bought a TX200 I am looking for a local club. Anyone have any experience of the Aldershot Rifle and Pistol Club or any other recommendations in the Surrey/Hants area? Thanks, Nick
  6. Well with a slab costing about £55 the gun comes in at under £600.... Hope she isn't reading this or she will think you don't care More seriously, it is easier to find a full-length stock and cut it down with a fine saw. The butt pad will be too big but they are available in different sizes or the original may be able to be cut to fit. Measure her carefully for gun fit and make a note so if you ever need to find a new girlfriend you know what size to look for! Cheers, Nick
  7. M'learned Friends could get a lot of business out of this. Not entirely seriously here but you could sue the council for the twisted ankle if they have failed in their duty of care by not taking appropriate action to resolve the rabbit problem. You would have to show they have responsibility for the upkeep of the land, that they were made aware of the problem and that you have suffered pain and loss whilst exercising your right of access. Appropriate settlement would be granting you permission over council land. ....have you had an accident that isn't your fault? Nick
  8. I may look and even feel like a grandad at times but unless my kids are good at keeping secrets, it hasn't come to that yet! It does seem to be an anomaly that my son can legally access the gun cabinet but my wife cannot - whilst she can have access to the air rifle but my SGC holding 14yo cannot legally do so. Assuming the info on the BASC website is up to date, it is however legal for him to borrow it and shoot unsupervised on private land. The wonders of not having joined up thinking by government I guess.... Nick
  9. Thanks, trigger lock it is then. It just about fits but may keep it elsewhere. Nick
  10. I have been thinking and looking about for something to replace a lovely little HW25 that I bought for my son a few years back. Last weekend I picked up a nearly new .177 TX200 with scope that fits both of us. With plenty of room for practice I hope we can move on to clearing the rabbits, magpies and squirrels in due course. The only slight issue is that with the scope fitted, I didn't realise how deep it is and it only just fits into my shotgun cabinet. I understand that it is not a great idea to store it in its gun slip so what do most people do - stick it on a shelf? Security is no
  11. I teach and my (state) school has a guy come in to shoot the pigeons that make such a mess about the place that they cause hygiene problems - one place they roost is directly above a kids' drinking fountain. He approached the site manager and asked. As I am very new to this, I wasn't in a position to do it at the time so good luck to him - I shall ask for some advice but not try to upset his permission as I am at the school for long enough anyhow without turning out early at weekends too. My advice would be to find out who has responsibility for the local management, approach them directl
  12. I have a Lincoln Premier Gold 20g o/u m/c with a shortened stock. It is cased as new since my son has moved on to a 12g. £650 including a slab of 250 21g cartridges. I am on the Surrey/Hants border and she is welcome to try it out at a local clay shoot any Sunday morning. Nick PS she will love you forever - but warranty only on the gun!
  13. There is a big difference between giving kids freedom and just not being arsed to spend the time with them. I would have trusted my son not to have done something stupid at that age because of the hours we spent clay shooting and plinking in the garden with his HW25. Sadly, a lot of parenting has been subcontracted to the TV and Playstation - where shot people get up again and life is detached from reality. At least their dad knew what they were up to, even if it was illegal and not very sensible! I would have been inclined to explain to the kids and give dad a call to explain the potent
  14. More important than make and model is gun fit. Buy from someone reputable because if the gun doesn't fit you properly you will find it very frustrating that you are not hitting the targets. 28" barrels are a good compromise but any reason for preferring a semi over an o/u? Nick
  15. Welcome! I am in the deep south - maybe others in your area don't (or can't) read this Maybe letting people know a bit about your interests will help get a response. Nick
  16. Will, my son was 10 when he got his - not that it will make you feel any better. Try pointing out to your Dad that when you apply for yours, you will be interviewed by the police and they will provide him with an independent assessment of your maturity. He can be proud of you for being so responsible and for having a real interest instead of hanging about on street corners or sitting in front of the xBox all day. Fifty quid well-spent in my opinion. Best wishes, Nick
  17. Mine said that only another SGC holder may have access to my spare keys but didn't express any opinion as to whom that may be. The inspection visit was just to look at the gun cabinet installation and to deliver my certificate - the interviews had been about 3 weeks previously when, amongst other things, advice on siting and fixing of the cabinet was given. He was a really nice, helpful guy who gave me contacts for local shoots and other informal advice. I hope yours goes as well! Nick
  18. As new condition, cased with chokes. Now outgrown, suitable for a young or lady shot. Face to face contact, certificate holders only. £650 to include a slab of 21g fibre wad cartridges. It is possible to try this gun at a local shoot. Surrey/Hants border. Nick
  19. I am looking to buy one of the above, with or without scope etc. Genuine buyer will pay cash for the right gun. Face to face transfer only - proof of ownership essential. Surrey based. Nick
  20. We are looking to buy an air rifle and scope so maybe mixing some rabbit and pigeon will improve the texture I don't particularly want to be messing about with compressed air supplies so favour a good springer such as a Weihrauch HW 97 or Air Arms TX200. Alternative suggestions welcome. Nick
  21. I have tried a variety but in truth notice little difference. I feel that there is more variation in gun mounts, stance etc. that will influence your results more than cartridge type until you have considerable experience. Personally, I like the 28g/8 Blue Diamonds. A bigger problem seems to be that half of them have polystyrene pellets . Nick
  22. My son is 14 and is also interested in competing. We are on the Surrey/Hants border. There are a couple of Sunday morning clay shoots near here where youngs shots could do with a bit of encouragement and the chance of informal competition. Nick
  23. Hi all, Dad and son here, both new to the sport. We are on the Surrey / Hants border and shoot clays regularly but find recipes hard to come by.... We are looking to try something different and welcome all advice. Nick
