  1. never said that they were equal in numbers to wheatens i did say that wheatens excelled but some even though a small amount of the kerry blues and glens worked and worked well in the early days if trials were brought back nowadays you would quickly see how far back the wheatens have gone working wise from been showed theres a few good wheatens knocking around still but they are small in numbers now too. I agree with what you say about the shows killing the working wheatens but it was also the laws enforced on us that are as much to blame, one time we could park up along side a busy road and g

  4. At one time west highland terriers worked and for all we know worked well everybody knows that most of these breeds have been destroyed by shows its common knowledge but they all worked one time and nobody can say for definite how good or bad any of them were in the 20,s. An old man once told me! or i read it in a book is not an accurate description because most people cant be truthful about whats in their own yard never mind anybody elses
  5. You can have an idea what breeds were like in the 60,s but in the early 1900,s its only guess work its getting back far enough that wheatens, glens, and kerry blues were nearly all the same thing and far different from the show stuff we have now.
  6. Surely someone on here has been in the situation where a sick bitch has been dosed by a vet and asked will it affect the pups does anybody know the answer.
  7. It fcuking amazes me how some people can dictate what does and doesnt work in other peoples yards that they have never been in before and are experts on what did and didnt happen before they were even born fcuk me some of the lads on here must be 150 years old to be experts in these fields or else they read it in books which are always 100% truth.......yeah right......
  8. Most bulls would push forward while wheatens would pull back which would make the wheatens excell when timed which is why the good wheatens have reduced in number with the demise of the trials.
  9. I only got 13 and i am irish i guessed half of them that i never heard before it depends on what area your from to hear different speaks but we are all backwards cnuts over here.
  10. i understand that end of it put can penicillan harm pups through suckling a medicated bitch thats the question im asking.
  11. Bit off topic talking about dogs that are being treated after been worked every 2 weeks for 8 seasons and a giving antibiotics to a bitch thats pupping maybe twice in her lifetime. The question was more to do with effecting the pups through the milk from a bitch that received penicillan than to do with over useage over a career.
  12. well it was 100 years ago but maybe your right
  13. fair play obviously hygeine is a must and you are correct in what you say but do you see a negative in antibiotics lets say using them with correct hygeine, i wouldnt critisize anyone its whatever works for different people im just interested in other peoples ideas without stupid im better than you arguments from people clambering for high status and too be fair a lot of people starting out might learn something by reading this thread from experienced people and most have the bitches welfare at heart but dont know when and what to do.
  14. Heard this from a few old hands. I personally have never seen ill effects from penicillin being given before a litter was born to dam or whelps.yeah even if bitch was a bit whoozy from medication it might save her life i also seen lads with bitchs given birth on shredded paper i think this is madness with wet pups and bitch and it sticking to everything id use a couple of bedsheets then dump them and start using paper when everything is nice and dry.
  15. A high seat to jump up on or bed or a box the bitch can jump out of in rearing pen is a good idea if 4 to 6 week old pups are pulling and dragging out of bitch constantly it drains them and they lose condition quickly she will hop in and out when she knows they are ready to feed and ill double the bitchs food when whelping pups and i find they keep their average weight. I dont know about feeding 5 times a day to be honest which most people aren,t i wouldnt have the time but if you are retired and do fairplay id feed mine raw in morning before work then raw in evening after work and leave a bo
  16. I have bred terriers every month of the year and you can't beat summer pups, they can go out in a run and the sun on their backs really brings them on,also the bitch will be ready for work come autumn,win/win all round, WMEvery month? There's a name for that.....? Peddler haha what a helmet you are, probably never bred a decent litter, without the likes of me there would be no decent pups to buy, you're probably one of those dicks that keep them in a remote sh*thole away from their house in 2" of sh*t,don't knock lads that take time to breed quality, WMlol,"without the likes of yourself ther
  17. Whats peoples opinions on a penicillan injection a couple of hours after bitch has pupped, a greyhound man i know lost a bitch or 2 over the years to womb infections and he claimed it can be too late at times to give antibiotics because it was hard to spot infection. Get the penicillan in early was his attitude and it would also clear up other underlying conditions that might weaken the bitch. People would differ on opinions on this matter im sure for treating an infection that might not exist but he reckoned it had no affect on pups or bitch and prevention is better than cure, i would be int
  18. that could be true but a litter of four say can clear a lot and i think milk is produced a lot by stimulation of the teats,so less pups less production, less strain on resources so production can go on for longer. So less pups means plenty for all for longer.. ive only ever seen it in the bitchs that lost full litters to puppy fading syndrome they were bagged up with milk and no pups to drain it. The guy who owned them got some sort of tablets off the vet and they cleared up within a week.
  19. Maybe if people are culling unwanted pups then the bitch can get mastitus from a build up of too much milk if shes only rearing 1 or 2 and all teats arent been used.
  20. Even if i reared a litter of pups in the house i would still use red lamp 150 watt usually i find 250 watt a little to hot and have it the right distance with room for the pups to move away if too hot. canine herpes or puppy fading syndrome is a sexually transmitted disease and a large amount of dogs carry it unknown to the owner because it is ownly dangerous to pups under 3 weeks old and thrives at low temperatures. Ive seen a dog breeder lose 3 full litters in one year because of it and the same thing happened the next year because of lack of knowledge. A red lamp is a must for 3 weeks and r
  21. Lol there's always that possibility fella. Like I've said a few times mate I don't know if a locator would of helped me on this occasion. Unless she was in an earth less than 50m away from the furthest earth I checked on the land then the bellman might of assisted. But we will never know... At least then I won't be wondering what if or thinking I could of done more. Missus is paying for the bellman and flint. Her treat she says. Late birthday present. So doesn't matter too much anyway. Haha. of course it would of helped if you spent days getting lads with lurchers and hounds to see would th
  22. Id be gutted if the bitch ran away over the horizon wearing a brand new bellman and flint imagine after searching for 5 days that you never got your collar back.
  23. Thats a great analogy and post Jiggy. what i find the funniest thing about it is if 100 men were giving their choice of 100 sires they would all point out the very same dog from the group as the top pick but if they had to travel for the service, take time off work or were put to any inconvenience only a small amount of lads will go the extra mile to get that dog and the rest will use the shit dog next door because its handy and end up with 8 shit pups.
