do you work your dog off a slip lead or do they hunt off leads
reddawn replied to busher01's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
daytime i dont target hares, so i dont need to walk em up on a slip, so my dogs are always off the lead an hunting up during the day, same as ferreting, a decent dog that knows it job dont need a lead.. when its comes doon to lamping, some dogs are just too keen to be worked off a slip, an some do it fine, if im in company whilst lampin i use a slip, same as if im out meself with a young dog, then i use a slip, but if im out on me tod way a older dog, then i like to let them walk to heel an lamp without a slip lead -
Absolute rubbish,a dog needs conditioning before it ever enters a field or even runs hard. When the hard work is done,on the road, lane etc.[this is the part a lot of owners tend to skip because of the time and toil involved},then its time to fine tune the mutt in the field, the easy bit.To many take shortcuts to get a dog at its optimum condition, shortcuts risk injury to the mutt and a dog thats exercised that way rarely reaches the potential of a littermate that was conditioned in the best interest of the dog,not the owner.

Why are you talkin bout whippets unless you mean them real racing whippets which if thats what you mean why in the f**k would you think that would make them less accident prone. Them little sumbitches can burn up the ground right now. If you mean them little roach backed blue bug eyed fuckers then you are a fool.

your over complicating it pal, if noo it dont have to be a full grey, then get a coursin dog, or a well bred non ped whippet, these are generally just a whipp/grey anyways an most are that well bred an nice an tight it wont matter so much, same as the coursing dog, forget the pures an fractions, find somebody who breeds tight an get yaself a pup oot workers
-
nae offence pal, but if you spent mare time oot in the field, working dogs, youd soon see that dogs of most shapes an sizes can catch, its hardly rocket science
-
if your serious about a greyhound, then forget it an get yaself a well bred up an at em coursing dog, afterall they are only doing what greys were bred fo back in the day, just the way id do it
-

i know this wouldn't work for ever dog but he don't sh*t or p*ss in the kennel and never did in the old set up. Good in one way but as soon as I get up I have to let him out and he'll piss for ages and can't wait to get his ass down.he is with me through the day so its only at night he stays in there when in not out lamping. No sh*t in my kennel lol. i got a bitch an a terrier here the same, they never use there kennels to toilet, an some days the look as tho they sitting cross legged waiting to get out for a piss, i survived for a while with them in kennels without any drainage, but b

reddawn replied to kevin-Day's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i was just about to ask you what you thought of the mans idea an the dogs involved, you dont seem to mince ye words, an obviously speak from experience, thanks for that, says what i been thinking not being funny kev, but if newbies to lurchers like myself who have worked lurchers for a wee while, give or take a week lol, an then guys like Chalkwarren an others on this thread, who have been doing the game for a lot longer are all thinking the same, surely we cant all be wrong -

deffo, iv even seen bunnys run past some holes an bolt out others close by, surely they should have exited by the closest hole?? but maybe the light has summat to do way them seeing the net against the sky?? i aint got an exact answer, but im pretty sure bunnys either use prefered holes to bolt, or they can see nets on some of the holes an choose to either face the ferret or try for another hole, we have seen it a few times this season alone When not under pressure a rabbit is a pretty cute charachter deffo, see some strange things happening when ye out ferreting, we once seen a bunn
