  1. She`s a great looking dog.... I have heard that they take a while to mature, but I suppose "all good things come to those who wait"!!!! Why would you have prefered a GWP? The main reason why I went for a GSP was mainly due to the burs that get stuck in the fur of a longer coated dog. Thanks for the heads up about the book. I`ll check it out. Thanks for the offer... But I`ve got my pup already. Besides, I live in Australia!!!!
  2. Is there an up-date on your GSP... I`m interested as I got one (a GSP) over the weekend.
  3. They`re not too bad to master, as long as you dont blow them like a referees whistle. You need to keep your cheeks in and blow from your lungs (if that makes sense). You also need to keep your tongue off the holes. I too bought one from foxshot, but these are totally different. I too couldnt get the hang of the one I bought from foxshot. They`re $40 Aussie Dollars, thats about Eighteen Pounds. Expensive for a fox whistle, but you do get three of them and a CD that teaches you how to use them properly and to your advantage.
  4. If you guys are serious on shooting foxes, you need to get yourselves a "Tenterfield Fox Whistle"... These things are short of being a miracle. Got mine yesterday, tried it out and shot four foxes in under 30 minutes. The foxes just come running up to you like a pet dog!!! You might see this post on a few hunting sites already. There`s nothing in it for me, I`m just amazed on how good it is, and will promote anything that keeps the fox population down... Here`s the link to the Tenterfield Whistle website check it out... http://www.tenterfieldfoxwhistle.net/
  5. I asked the same question on smoochers forum...
  6. Get yourself a decent .22 with a decent scope and you wont regret it. You might also want to consider the .22 magnum, but I still prefer the .22
  7. It shouldnt effect him too much, if its just the one tooth. I know you can get his tooth replaced with an artificial one, but I know its big $$$$ to do so...
  8. I`m looking at purchasing a new finder that I could use on my Terrier as well as my ferrets. Which one would you say is the best to go for and a few links would be handy... Thanks...
  9. Some hunting sites from Oz... Hey Stabs, You might find these useful... http://www.australianhunting.net/ www.boardogs.com http://aushunt.com.au/ http://hunters-hut.com/
  10. Hey Stabs, I didnt realise you were engaged to an Aussie.... It sure makes getting your visa a lot easier. Not saying that is the reason why you`re getting married to an Aussie. As you know, I married an Aussie three years ago, and I`m still with her and wouldnt leave her for the world, and thats saying something from an ex-player like me!!! Terrier work, is friggin hard work out here. The ground unlike in the UK, is like cement out here. I had never had to dig down to a Terrier but then I wouldnt want to. It was bad enough diggin holes in the ground for the wifes fruit trees!!!
  11. Hey Shepp, I`m in Central Victoria, between Ballarat and Bendigo. I think its real easy to get permission to hunt, as long as you dont live in a big city. Living out in the country, you get to know your neighbours who are usualy sheep farmers with huge amounts of land, that will appreciate a bit of fox control, and wouldnt mind you taking rabbits for your dogs. Unlike the UK, there`s no need to poach out here...
  12. Hey Shepp, I made the move here 5 years ago, and its the best decision I have ever made. Also brought over a Staffordshire Bull Terrier here with me. It cost a friggin fortune to do. There are some great dogs here. I purchased a Staghound (also known as Lurchers in the UK) here, and she is "THE BEST" dog I`ve ever owned. Takes on anything from a rabbit to a Roo. She also retrieves to hand (except Roos!!!) whether its caught by her or shot by me.
  13. In order of preferance;- Rabbits/Hares with their Jackets on and guts inside them. Skinned and gutted rabbits/hares Chicken without the head, flight wings and feet Duck/Pigeon/Crows/Magpies as with chickens Purina Dry Food
  14. LOL... Theres quite a few good bars like that... But now I`m married and under the thumb... Unless its to do with hunting...LOL
  15. Hey Stabs, "If" you do come over here, you`ll regret it.... You`ll regret not doing it sooner!!! Its been 5 years now since I`ve made the move from London, and I kick myself everyday that I never did it sooner. The weather, the people, the food, the beer, the women and more importantly the hunting is soooo much better here. Its not easy getting a residency here, but its worth the hassle. Cant you get a transfer from your job to the NSW branch? They might sponser you... That will mean you will be located in a big city. Another option is to come over on a student visa, but
  16. I`ve never been although I own a Beagle myself... Just wondering how you guys keep up with them, presuming you are on foot. The reason why I ask this is, that if I let my Beagle of her lead, she is off like a shot and you need to be fast on your feet and have bundles of stamina to keep up with her.
  17. years ago someone that was into the good life had a labradoodle. lab/standard poodle.it looked like the sort of shaggy mongrel you see in 70,s pictures.was good marker and worked to nets.i see while ago .there was a breeder advertising on epupz that specialized in this cross but were asking 750pounds :11:definetly priced out of working market. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> All my dogs are good markers, but my best dog for marking holes in my Stafford. Followed closely by my Beagle.
  18. My male dog has a lot of the old Nuthall/Wheeler stuff in him, with a good touch of Gould. He is awesome when it comes to work.
  19. Some dogs go through a sort of "teenage wont listen to anyone" kind of stage. They tend to grow out of this phase, but this can take a good while. I had a dog that was like this until he was almost 2 years old. After he got out of that stage, he was one of the most obedient dogs that I have ever owned....
  20. I know a few guys with some decent Patterdales in Vic & NSW if thats any help to you...
  21. Mate, I just dont know what to say...
  22. I didnt want to hear his reason. I just wanted what was mine. Taking a guess, I would think that his reason was to get a few quid for the pelt and the snares would bring him more pelts in the future.
  23. There is nothing more I would have loved than to break this w****ers jaw. But the thing is, you need to play it smart too. If I had done that, I`m sure he would have got the police involved and that would be the end of my gun licence. But I know what yu`re saying....these kind of people and dog thieves are the lowest of the low.
  24. Hey, guess what...? Drove past the field this morning and I see someone working on a broken down Land Rover!!!! Anyway, I carried onto the landowners house and told him about it. We quickly grabbed a few tools (to help him off course ) and went down to the field. He was still there. We confronted the guy that was working on his punctured tyres, and he wasnt very happy with us, threatening us with property damage to his vehicle!!! So I offered him my mobile to call the police, but obviously he was not interested after we threatened him with trespassing and theft. Anyway to cut a long story sh
  25. You`re right pegandgun, someone has nicked my catch and the snare. I went to the same field this morning. Another catch, but no fox and no snare . This time the peg/post was banged into the ground so deep, it would have been impossible to remove with a post remover. So the thieving shits cut the wire that attached the snare to the post. It was a clean cut as if they used pliers. Looks like they drove up to the snare. Had a word with the owner of the land about it, and he doesnt know who would do such a thing. However, he has put a piece of wood with nails at the entrance of his field. Lets s
