do you mean Brandy ?
-
Some lads well old men like me now, added a nice line of small black staff to there smithy/ Spartacus bred stuff late 80's early 90s think one went to the USA , that blood is in a few families of terriers now
-
Good luck with them Ryan
-
RM you should stop gossiping and thought you would of mentioned it's your mate from stoke dog . the first litter produced a good % of workers 2nd I have no idea the Zac pups where total crap .Brandy % of pups where poor when out crossed again , major problem has been tiny litters if you take the last four mating including the false pregnancy/miscarriage she produced only 4 live pups so thats average of 1 pup per mating , when your stating with a low number your % is going to be low one pup fails then that litter is crap ....good luck with your own stuff I hope the GM outcross works for you
-
alot of the pit blood used would of predated the staff , but your right somewhere small, lot of people are thinking about the wrong pit , and what the dogs were used for
-
yes some did say this false trails i think !, JP told me this which i found odd at the time as his stuff was bred off Breays Bingo and Tig{choc} , double bred Davey who's dam line carried the choc colour and from what i've been told the pit blood , they used to say they did the same with terriers carrying white feet , they were either taking the piss out of tourist or a case of do as i say not as i do
-
looking well, your old girl has a look of Tilly about her
-
i've had a few strong in the body but weak in the mind , they grow lovely roses
-
Brandys working days are not over , just less of them now she very fit, drive on her like a young terrier still , i don't see one cross as having much bearing , the % of litter 1-3 , she has been mated back to her sire blood 3 times first litter produced workers 2nd time she had one pup i have her at 4 doing ok 3rd litter this pup , Woody mated her to other stuff produced nothing of much good, times marching on and things don't look good for terrier work , so i may never know if it was a good outcross , i'll leave that to the ones who get the pups off me
-
technically Breay never used a pitbull on his bitches, and now 60 maybe even 70 years later the information i've built up is at best 2nd hand and then its down to my interpretation of that information , i only have to look at them i know what i think
-
early days I don't know yet
-
this is her with two brothers believe they never made the grade
-
Things have moved on abit since this thread, started , John added a drop off bull , and i've talked to few different people who have told me they believed Breay gave a few his Border hybrids to a gamekeeper who mated his putty nosed choc pit on to them and Breay had pups from this mating and gave rise to the smooth coated reds and chocs as well as the blacks , maybe John knew this and his breeding program was based on what he knew had worked before , i'm still hassling to find out more ....i did ask John years ago , but all he wanted to talk about was that f***ing radio lol

Not rose tinted at all he wasn't a small dog he also wasn't a Butch dog , I saw a lot of good stuff off him graft but the one I owned was shit , those that said he wasn't a good digging dog did they ever dig to him as a remember a few claim such on one site never dug to him ?
-
Photo given to someone by Dave R saying it's Rags
-
I handled Spartacus he wasn't a weakling compared to smithy he was finner in type but so we're most terriers , but still a better type of dog compared with what another kennell of blacks had at the time had to offer, never heard anyone who dug to him say he wasn't a good worker , it was said he could never become a great worker like smithy due to the law change... like all blood you get the good the great and the shit

Rags
-
She looks like a smooth coated version of spartacus dam Rags JP told me she was a rough one
-
I do on the whole expect a slightly different work style from my bitches they are on the whole more user friendly where as the dogs as I only breed from dogs with one type of drive and that is overdrive, they may need a rest now and then, I try to let others have them and keep to my girls the only standard is stay til dug or draw or bolt dog or bitch
-
My photos don't do him justice, he is solid but a very handy size just wish he was mine
-
Not my dog but a fine animal to ground. ...I bred his Dam
