what like a 3/4 lurcher 1/4 collie? sounds fast and clever is that the basics of a good running dog what do lads think your dogs best traits should be?

Thanks lads i was thinking of some kind of whippet X but ground i hunt varys dramaticly from small flat fields where it would be watching warrens to open areas with quite long grass where we'd be flushing and chasing to cliff sides where you couldnt work a dog, would a whippet X do well at coursing rabbits

right lads i've been thinking of getting a running dog that will mostly be worked alongside ferrets and the odd run on its own i have a lot of questions like should it be in a pen, in the house or does it matter? what training is needed? would it clash with me having a family dog and a working dog(i already have a family dog)? whats the best lines for me? could any one shed a bit of light on this or point me to a couple of good books Thanks Micky

got the kits now 8 healthy chunky kits they've grown drastcly since the birth can see the colour 4 white, 4 marked very happy with her, first time ive bred so not sure when to to start weening and how do you tell they are ready, there eyes are still closed and they stay in the nest bit in the den but they can move (slightly) by climbing all over mum when she returns to the nest they were born on 8/5/11 (11 days) il be putting fresh rabiit meat when the time comes but what else can you ween them on and when or how can you tell they are ready?

Nice one lads just put the shavings down a bit of straw then a pillar case (tied at the end) with the straw on top shes sorted it all out i tried the towel last night and her claw got caught in some thread so i changed it she ready to drop any day now thanks for the advice lads

about a week you will noticed the swelling has gone down in a couple weeks you'll notice the teets swelling and her back end will start getting fatter thats whats happened to mine anyway atb pal

My jill is due any day(any second) and she just started dragging sawdust in her nest im wondering will it affect the kits i added a bit more straw in front of her den so she can take that instead so if it will endanger the kits i'll need to get it out now but dont want to bother her nest by changing everything so close to giving birth need answers asap lads cheers Micky

nice dog mate and for all the on here if the parents were both crosses then chances are not all the pups would look the same and you defintly cant tell a breed especially not crosses from a few pics does look a bit pitbullterrier X from what i can see and if it works it works good looking dog mate plus everyones entitled to an opinion just dont be such a twat about it

No digging - hey mate you ain't done much ferreting. not true mate my jill has gone round a 30 hole warren bolted all rabbits and destroyed all kits after less than half an hour and a couple of shouts she popped up to get back in the bag needless to say we called it a season Yeah and you ain't done much feretting either lad. How the f**k do you know she bolted all the rabbits and destroyed all the youngsters? Cloud cuckoo land son!!! ha ha you retard no bucks and 5 females all just give birth so yeah i pretty much know, cant guarantee -

kobidog i know its out of season (what he does on his permission is none of my buisiness) i didnt realize how old the post was just pointing out to the origanal poster i wouldnt shoot females or pairs this time of year just male groups so if you want a dispute have one with the wife not me

ive done a lot of duck hunting pal with air rifle yeah headshots only to put it down then you have to get wet and ring its neck to make sure this time of year i'd only shoot at male groups for obvious reasons, your right you do have to stay in stealth mode all the the time good fun tho and tastes brilliant good luck on your next trip, good hunting
