Not the most experienced shooter and I agree with the use of a decent cartridge, I use a 32g 6 as this cycles my semi auto nicely and stops everything I have the opportunity to shoot at, but is a 3/4 choke at 25/30 yards a little on the tight side? I stand to be corrected (and often am!) everyone has their own preference and confidence with what your shooting with is 90% of the battle, I have a fixed skeet barrel and find it perfect for decoying although I have to admit I do think twice about those high or long range birds, but again this is partly confidence as I have folded these at a decent

I bought this unregged mk2 a few months ago since then Ive had some good days very accurate thing, I had a lot of good days with it but haven't had a camera, I need a better one soon and get with the times but borrowed my wifes blackberry today to take some pics for you.

I will shoot a few rangey birds to begin with to build the pattern up but once you get going it should be a matter of building your pattern so they are landing 25-30 yards in front of you that is the key part of the field craft involved to pull the birds to you like a match fisherman pulls the fish to him. At 25yrds you should be more or less straight at them, shoot them as they do the last few flaps before they land not at 45 degrees and 60yrd high not until your a confident doing it. I find too many people don't shoot a tight enough choke or use a pokey enough cartridge, I use 3/4 ch

I got a pair of sparrow hawks following me now Im convinced, they hang around until I tag a bird then they will chase it down, like a mother teaching its young on easy picking. It knows now not to pick up my plastic decoys as they have tried enough times.

What Decoy Set Up Are Yous Using?
engraver replied to Haggis81's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Ive never had great success with a bird of prey decoy, Ive got a buzzard and an owl but they are for placing near a rookery in winter when nothings doing but it only gets me a few birds never 20 plus as they soon disappear. If you want to decoy crows and pigeons this time of year I suggest you get your self a dozen pigeon decoys and a few flocked crows. Patterns don't matter much at all its about being on the right field at the right time, like now, as fields are getting cut, the days following the birds are hovering up split grain. Start by watching the birds in the days running u -
Good Day Today But I Have A Question.
engraver replied to engraver's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
I went up today and found the Rook mate but unfortunately it was battered with the rain and wind up there plus flies had got to it, so I didn't fancy putting that in my motor it stank. had another good day up there though, I shot 47 with the Rapid well chuffed. -

In fact it looks like a black and white rook come to think of it, If I turned it around it had a white cap on its head also, and white feet, weird. -

Four lightweight poles. Net in my cammo bucket which I use as my seat Gun/ammo 6 shells. Did that yesterday but only took a few shells, ended up with 88 in two hours but ran out of ammo, should have been 3 figures for sure.

Good Day Today But I Have A Question.

I left it on the field mate as the farmer told me to leave a few on the stubble to put off other birds. I never thought to have it stuffed I wish I had brought it home now, but it will still be there but probably already starting to rot. I could get it for you if your really interested, where in the country are you? -
I shot a field today on the edge of the moors, Ive had the permission a while but not been on until this corn had been cut so today was a first. It was cold raining and windy but I turned the gate hole to see a grey and black field totally hammered with them. I first thought I haven't got enough shells but decided to set up with what I had. They came in hard and fast upwind like a constant stream into my kill zone my Browning maxus has never been as hot, I thought it was going to melt the forend. But the inevitable happened I ran out of shells but picked 88 birds.. and they wer

Hi Mate can you send me pictures? What length is it and gauge? -
Browning Maxus duckblind cammo 3.5" magnum 26" barrels, bought febuary this years and boxed mint, has all accessories travel case and chokes, including 2" extended turkey choke. Cost £1150 I want around £900ono for it as its basically new. The other gun is a Walnut Carbine FX2000 in .22 mint with two mags and accessories, Nikon scope reach back mounts, cobra leather sling, venom filler plug and brass Bolt handle, a real rarity in this condition, and brilliant little gun still puts most new guns to shame, I shot 5 pigeons with it this week and two rabbits Im still on the fence weth

Never had that mate touch wood. I say jam but I mean it leterally gets the emty shell stuck in the ejection slot I just pull it out with my hand and its good to go, Ive never thought it worth going 50 miles back to the shop for. What you using through yours mate? Ive used some kent velocity 30grm 6s which I thought were crap and 30grm clear pigeon which were not much better, now settled on 3/4 choke and 32grm clear pigeon, seems to hammer down most things I shoot now within 40yrds, shot 61 the other day with 70 cartidges, in fact I did the school boy error and ran out it could have bee

They are a bit heavy on the trigger mate aren't they but it doesn't bother me, apart from mine jamming it was a bit of a learning curve with the handling after shooting OU guns for nearly 20 years. It definatley doesn't cut em down at range like my berretta does though, I don't know about actually using it for wildfowling with some big shells but I find it more at home on 30yrd pigeons to be honest, that's the 26" version I have but I bought it as a pigeon and crow gun anyway I don't even go wildfowling but if I did I would have gone for he 30" version for definite. If always used a 70

Nice one mate had a similar bag of them myself yesterday. Same gun also. I got mine in 26" how do you find yours? has it ever jammed mine has a couple of times but its still pretty new and easily sorted but often when a bird is landing in my patern lol

What Are The Rapid Mk11 Fac .22's Worth
engraver replied to riflehunter583's topic in General Airgun Discussion
A decent one is worth between 600-750 for a non FAC a bit less for an FAC version but you see the odd one for less but you never know these days what your buying until you open its guts and you find allsorts of surprises. They can look untouched on the outside but can have chewed up threads inside and faulty regs. The best ones were the late ones with the scalloped blocks. I don't see the prices of Rapids falling at all, If anything they are more sought after than ever! And for good reason they are still the Daddys and have a big following with the two dedicated forums, Get a g -

I Had A Few Hours On The Barley Margins.
engraver replied to engraver's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Because Its only a week or so from being cut. But my impatience has got the better of me, they were queing up on the pylon wires almost waiting for it. Thing is they could be a bit more spooky now dropping into that corner of the field, just a theory but still plenty more to go at. -
I saw a few birds dropping onto the 15ft margins they have cut on my permissions the other day so I thought I would go down and have a go. I had about 15 shells placed out and a bouncer in the barley itself. Ended up with a bag of about 40 not bad for the first time I had tried it on an uncut crop. I know I may have ruined my chances of bigger bags on that field now but the pheasants are going in the pens this week so I may not have another chance on that field being so close to the pen. But finding them in the barley is another story without a gundog.
