I saw both running, Foxy when she was runner up to Dancer, and Snowy when she won the Forley in 02 or thereabouts. Going by these two days I wouldn't presume to say which was better but I think Snowy performed better in her year......but over all you'd need to ask Craig, and I think Foxy's unbeaten match record would swing it her way for most people.

A first cross is a hybrid....in your case a cross between a whippet and a bedlington terrier. I've never seen a cross of these breeds that was in any way better than a whippet, unless the purpose was to produce a show type lurcher that fitted the blueprint of some of the old stylised blue hairy whippet examples, used to illustrate some of the less useful early lurcher books.

Be interested to know how it did retrieving geese off the shore....?

The right whippet will do that job, no need to dilute the speed for cuddleability, there's nothing more cuddleable than a whippet that does the job!

Oh dear.....it's already begun! From the Daily Caller;- The president of the European Economic and Social Committee, Staffan Nilsson, issued a statement calling for solidarity in tackling the global warming problem. “Some islands affected by climate change have been hit,†said Nilsson. “Has not the time come to demonstrate on solidarity — not least solidarity in combating and adapting to climate change and global warming?†“Mother Nature has again given us a sign that that is what we need to do,†he added. These wackos never miss a chance to jump on any passing

I wonder how long it'll take for this earthquake to make it onto this list of things that have been blamed on "global warming" http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/warmlist.htm

Just a lot of cameras, mobile phones and internet nowadays, whereas before news got out by word of mouth. They're having a rough ride at the minute for sure.

fast as a greyhound and run for 5 or 6 mins
BOLIO1 replied to speedie's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I imagine this is what our greyhounds were like before they were bred solely for speed around the track. They were used for coursing only until the 1920's. How lucky those guys are to be able to express themselves in the ancient way without fear of Big Brother descending in a helcopter.... Bravo Espania....long may you hold your freedom! -
I bet its the first time you've been called young lad in a while though S, lol.

The hybrids are bettaer than pures in general but for instance, T.G.'s pure bitch that made the Forley finals three years on the trot, J.L.'s Star killed 7 on a day out with J.F. and T.H. and K.T.'s Bill....Khans brother who was capable of 5's in January, are all worth a mention. And then there's Wilburs stuff!

You wont get an argument from me Baw. After all, what chance would I have? You already know all about fenland running from watching clips, whilst I've been going over there for about 15 years and I still get my eyes opened from time to time.

Another thing you have to bear in mind is the forshortening effect of the lens. The horizon is much further away than it looks.....the land is even bigger when you're stood on it than it looks on tape.

Well as someone who saw Lucky running in the flesh I don't need to speculate. I KNOW he was a great dog. Why weren't all these "better, faster" dogs competing in the finals against the likes of Lucky? The owner of another great dog, Sniper, ran regularly with Lucky's owner and he told me that no matter how many hares the bitch he was running at the time killed in the course of a day out, Lucky would always take more. Here was a man who had won the Forley cup and run on all types of land and he was praising Lucky to the rafters. Roll on the day when this ban is lifted and maybe some of t

Yes, I thought that the dogs we'd owned and killed hares with every week in Ireland would have been much better than the "plodders" we'd only seen on calender cup tapes.....until I went over and tried it B.R.I.!

Is that white one Blondie Optimus? She used her tail like that as a rudder for balance, very distinctive style.
-
That was the Snipe pup, she turned out feathered. You don't have a pic of the cream smooth bitch called Soda by any chance? Yes some bugger with a Glasgow accent....what was his name again?
-
Blondie impressed me the most of all the dogs or bitches I ever saw in the flesh......Foxy's brother Nipper over Dancer was an inspirational mating that worked.
-
There used to be plenty but the eastern Europeans have been plundering them for the freezer.
-
Of course they are Toby, and it takes a very special animal to win against the best at both. I'm a big fan of these two and have the above pics on my back room wall.....the one of Dancer when she won the Forley cup is a rare one NOT taken by Optimus, lol.
-
Over here we called it "hand walloping" but trust the yanks to go one better........ http://www.clipaday.com/videos/redneck-fishing

Optimus are those two black dogs Keiths Tor and Harry's Lisa by any chance? Lisa went on to contest the final with Dancer. If so I think Tor got the rough end of the stick on that run. From the angle we were watching I thought Tor clearly won but the judge was at right angles to us and it can't have been easy comparing two similar coloured dogs at that distance even with the collars.

Couldn't have put it better Moll. It's not an "either", "or" question. All options can be looked at and just because you use a mill doesn't mean you stop the free running that promotes cardio efficiency.
-
Maybe some of the treadmill knockers would like to come on and show Graig Nuttall where he was going wrong....... Foxy (unbeaten in a match) and her sister Rosie, two coursing dogs of the highest class.
-
As I said earlier, I wouldn't condemn the whole breed for the sins of a few but when you've been going to trials every month of the season over a period of years and viewed up to thirty wheatens tethered up and waiting their turn at each trial, not to mention visiting the yards of doyens of the breed on a regular basis like Peter Gorman who may have had half a dozen adults and more youngsters on the way up you will have heard the warning, "don't go near that fella" more than once.

Aye the blue one, Sky.
