  1. .........And I'll bring all the Cobs/Rolls/Batch's and relish/sauces to go with them.
  2. Been up today, can order on Monday so shout if you want some! Cheers, D. No thanks D. Same as Kev for me as well.
  3. I've got a well used one................................ ;)
  4. Any one know where the Craigyboy cup is ?? Loumic won it last year, but he left before the presentation. MickC took it for him I think.
  5. Very rare to catch in the daylight on the Dove now. I use 2 rods, but the river is only 20/30 yards wide. Generally G/B feeder upstream and a boillie on the same line downstream, or if its wide enough. same methods, different line. I normally wait till the baitrunner or the rod goes before I pick up.
  6. What distance from the bend would you have your pellet/boilie Sean ?? Between 5mm and 10mm for me. My first two years on the Dove, i piled the bait in. This year I've fed very little (Some paste around a gripper lead and a few freebies or a PVA bag) I'm not that keen on one of the guys who fishes the river a lot TBH, but he's caught a few and he does hold the river record at 18lb odd.
  7. Aww, that's a shame, but fully understandable. (Or is is because you don't want to listen to Walshies constant gloating about the Rugby ??) But as others have said you've been there from the start. It wouldn't be the same if another of the originals dropped out. My mate who briefly came with me last year was in the same situation, he just came for the craic. (He didn't stop long though) We've helped out lots of folks on here in the past. A few beers, some snap and a bit of bait is the least we can do for one of our own. Have a think about it John.
  8. I'm not a boilie man, I just don't get the whole hair rig-boilie thing. It's not even on the hook FFS. I do know that the CC Moore Meteor boilie was a good Barbel bait. But they no longer make them as well. Been using Dynamites Crab and Garlic, but haven't caught on it. Picked the Crave up, but put it down. Maybe later.
  9. A single 15mm Halibut boilie, with PVA bags of not much freebies (Crushed boilies and/or pellets) or a G/B feeder. The lads that do well on there don't share much info, but what they do say is to not feed much and don't cast out too often. They won't tell you what they're using though. They say to just leave it in there. That part is a tad boring TBH. I've got some big drilled pellets, I'll give it a go one one of my rods. Just bought some of these to try. http://www.dynamitebaits.com/products/p/spicy-tuna-sweet-chilli-boilie-range
  10. Thanks guys. I'm not really sure whats happening this year, I'm doing exactly the same this year as the last two, just seem to be catching. They're not Barbel, but after all the blank sessions I've had, Chub will do. Four good Chub (2 of them PB's) a tiddler, one Eel (PB) and a PB Barbel. If the season ended tomorrow, I've had a decent year already.
  11. 4lb 8oz. Seem to be able to catch the Chub but not the Barbel. Any ideas Walshie ??
  12. I'm coming down on the Saturday, so won't be fishing the river Kev, sorry. Be there late on. I wont need any bait, I'll sort it this end (Our local tackle shop used to sponsor us, so only fair to keep using him) I'll bring Sausages and cobs.
  13. Sadly, the lady who drew this for us no longer does them.
  14. The problem now is, do you trust the stated breaking strain on the spool of any braid you buy ?? The Dove is a small river, 20yds wide, so you are not getting much main line stretch to help cushion the fight. I can see me now having to use a much higher breaking strain braid than I'd like just to be on the safe side.
  15. I like braid, I like it's suppleness. What I dont like is if I buy a braid that says 15lb on the lable, I don't want it breaking at 7lb. (Fox) Iv'e lost two fish this week that have possibly been way over my PB, and I've spent two seasons trying to catch, only for the braid (That I thought was up to the job) give way. Not to mention leaving hooks in the fish. The Barbel in the Dove go to over 18lb. With 12lb main line and 18lb braid, I fancy my chances. If the braid I'm using breaks at 12lb, I could be on a loser straight away.
  16. I'm off out again Monday evening. I'll be using the ESP. I'm slightly pissed off that i've lost fish coz the braid isn't up to the job. Not on really is it ??
  17. That's a very interesting test, just out of curiosity how long has the braid been in your tackle box which you have tested , I've had bad spools of mono before but I've never had braid snap and judging by the test everyone bar esp and drenan is well under the breaking strain which is kind of frightening seeing as they're not exactly cheap Some of them I was given from a friend who gave up carping (Korda brown, Kryston, Drennan Double strength) The rest is at best one season old. The Fox and ESP was bought earlier this year. The 20lb today. Not a very scientific test I must admit. I pu
  18. Your right of course. Trouble is with the same breaking strain mono as braid, the mono is very stiff. Braid is nice and limp.
  19. No Mussels that i know of. The river has a clay bottom in the swim i've been in, gravel runs else where. I think the braid I've been using is just over stated.
  20. It's been in my tackle box inside a rucksac in the garage.
  21. Just done some high tech testing in the shed of the braid in my tackle box. Very interesting to say the least. 18lb Korda Gravel brown colour broke at 18lb 15lb Fox went at 7lb 15lb ESP went at 14lb 20lb ESP went at 19lb 14lb Kryston supersilk went at 10lb 15lb Double strength mono went at 13lb after stretching a lonnnnnnnng way. 12lb Drennan sinkbraid went at 12lb And the 18lb Korda I've been using, the weed gree
  22. No. A 15mm halibut boilie. I wont be using the Korda again, as you say, no confidence in it any more. Off to tackle shop soon to get replacement. Be interesting to see what that angling god Walshie has to say about the matter though....................
