    John did honourable service as a member of the Fell & Moorland W.T.C. and then went on along with others, to form the well respected and highly successful Durham & Northumberland W.T.C. He and his late wife Esme formed the backbone of that Club in an area where fools are not suffered gladly. He was a lifelong terrier enthusiast and through his long association with the D.& N.W.T.C. was one of the founding members of the National Working Terrier Federation.

    For many decades both the N.W.T.F. and the terrier world at large benefitted from John’s support, his exceptional legal brain and as a practicing Barrister the legal advice which he so freely gave. Having had the privilege of standing alongside John in Court where he defended terrier men charged with the most dubious of offences, and one case in particular which would have had longer term implications for the future of terrierwork, I know more than most just how significant his contribution has been.

    Regarding terriers that are called too hard,I remember being out with the late Lawton evans and a fox was to ground ,Lawton had two terriers with him one had an od scar the other was covered in scars,one man commented that the one covered in scars was too hard,and Lawton said it wasn’t hard enough or it would push right up to the fox and guzzle it just like the the one with only a few scars,wf

    I was putting up a light in the kitchen one day. Put my hand down for the screwdriver, gone. What have you done with the screwdriver? "haven't touched it" buggered if I could find it. So got another out of my toolbox, two hours later I found it in the cutlery draw.

    Hi,can anyone hopefully help me out,at a friends bird feeder there’s a finch sized bird turns up it,has an orange chest with white below and along its side is white,with some black on its head,it won’t stay long enough for a picture,it comes to the feeder along with blue tits,chaffinch ,goldfinches in fact all the normal birds you would have at a feeder,he lives in the country if that makes any difference or not,if some of you guys can put up a picture of what you think it could be,it would be most helpful,wf
