  1. If you watch the dvd, a fistfull of ferrets more, with James bradly and co. you will see proper polecat high breeds on that, at the bigening of the dvd.
  2. Thanks everyone for their input. Its been interesting. Dan.
  3. ...bloody hell, i just want some info on working bedlingtons, not a argument... Sorry if i worded it rong, just wonderd whats the best lines out their, if no one wants to give that info, thats fine, no bad feelings, shame though. Dan.
  4. maybe you should change where you get your stock,as there are an abundance of workers around here. or better still breed your own. simples..... i have my own strain, they do me well. but, for some, its getting harder and the odd time in the last few years i have found it hard to get a good out cross, but fine at the moment, as i have explained in my earlier posts.
  5. mate i agree with you, just because you have a working ferret, does not mean you keep it in shit conditions and forget about it till you show it a hole. like i said, mine get handled everyday ect. what my point is, too many are getting bred from as pets and not for work, the ferrets original use. its getting harder to find good working ferrets. not all ferrets work a warren where they want to find every rabbit thats in their and dont come out till its empty, its these ferrets that i strive to have, the old fashion ferret if you like.
  6. How many on here work the bedlington terrier? Im thinking of a lurcher for the future, bedlington x greyhound and want the bedlington side to come from proper working stock, not show. So just wonderd who works them to their full potential and what lines do you work? Cheers.
  7. Exactly. I find, after a day out with the ferrets, they seems calm and quiet, settle down to a good nap, till the next day, when their ready to go again, its what they live for. my ferrets are handled every day, live in a nice pen, where they dig holes ect. just in case some of you think working ferrets are not happy. i also work them the odd time during the summer, early in the mornings, when i get called on certain areas.
  8. i finding this a bit strange, being on a hunting site and in the ferreting section, with so many pet ferret owners? each to their own, but is their not a site, for pet ferret owners? the statement made by the one, is spot on.
  9. well to me a ferret has allways been a worker, end of. a pet ferret to me is one that does not bolt rabbits, just runs about a house ect.
  10. what you do with your ferts, is your buisness. after 2 seasons, if any of my ferrets are not doing the job, they get put down humanely, just a thing i have done since young and have a very good stain from doing this. i learnt my ferreting ect from my father who was working ferrets pre mxy days around essex, right up to norfolk. selective breeding over the years, has given me ferrets that on their first outings, cop on straight away and work well. At one time, you could get a ferret off someone for work and it would allways do the job, not muck about, they are getting harder to find in my e
  11. A hypothetical question.. if you simply couldn't find them working homes & you couldn't keep the excess what would you do with them ? simple, i would not breed in the first place. i allways make sure 100%, thati have homes for them. i dont breed that often anyhow, only every few years when myself and mates need new stock. i will say this though, any that dont work, get humanely put down.
  12. personally i would make sure that i had good working homes for them all before mating, if not, the jill jab.
  13. i just gave to some friends a litter of kits. i wanted them to go to working homes and they all did. i got a lot of folks asking to take them as pets, but personally, i don't agree a ferret should be kept as a pet. i also think its because of the pet trade, their is a lot of bad working ferrets about. would you sell/give to a pet home?, as this is a hunting sight, i thought id ask this quetion. Cheers.
  14. Becarefull, too much liver will paralise kits back legs, as it has a very high dose of vitamin A. Tiny bit now and then is fine. Personally, i would not give it to kits. I feed mine mainly rabbit and pigeon now and then complete ferret food.
  15. I feed mine the day before and thats' it. A ferret that is a bit hungry, works better i find and quicker. A fat well fed ferret, mucks about and in my opinion does not work right.
  16. Thats a shock for you i bet!!, very sorry to hear this sad news.! All sighthounds, should not be ran, for at least 12 hours after feeding, if it was a twisted gut. If it was the heat, electrolytes would of helped a good bit. Rip Carra..
  17. Like the blue lad , hows he on the lamp, if you lamp him?
  18. Thanks for the welcome. Its the ferreting im mainly into, so this cross seems the best option so far for some bolting rabbits.
  19. well, just registerd. have not got a lurcher yet, but thinking of a bedlinton x greyhound at some point in the future. have a few ferrets, which gives me many hours of fun threw the season. Thanks.
