  2. cheers for letting us know that EH when did they get the protected status i hadnt heard of that even though every so often i get the police knocking on my door to check my bird
  3. the rabbit as many predators including us any number of these could of be the death of this animalsome even eating part or most of it but i have actually seen rabbit eating rabbit another time when up in scotland i was out ferreting i went on this land and the first 6 holes i checked was full of rabbit bones so i gathered my belongings and went to the next farm
  4. ive only seen crows with white marking in scotland but doesnt matter if they are white or black the ferrets stilll eat them
  5. not made this for over 30 years lol but we used to get the big old toffee jars fill them with the fruit and sugar then pour over the spirit of choice the missus loved it but was to sweet for me maybe if i start doing it again ill only use half the sugar
  6. you can get single catch traps and multi catch. i recently set up some single catch and caught 6 polecats in four days with them. im not keen on the sliding door type, in fact the agent that came to see me asked if i had any problems with them to wihich i pointed out the sliding door one you can easily cut your finger on it and the piece on the inside needs to be slightly longer to prevent this, plus as it is there is a chance of being bit i much prefer the squirrel traps they are more sercure and easy to set
  7. i use the cage trap with good results what area are you in
  8. ive used both hobs and jills for ratting and used the same for rabbiting afterwardssome of the rats holes are to small for a large hob thats why i use the jill at times but more often it will be the hob. you need to check your ground where the holes are the only time i wont use them is if i think the holes were connected to the drains in which case you will probably lose you ferret. i found that the rat would sooner run than stand and fight but if cornered it will put up a bit of a fight but ive never seen a rat get the better of a ferret. if you have a good ferret you will know even before i
  9. no i dont take her out flying in the open because of how she is when people ask me i usually say its like a typical woman with pmt lol there are day i can go in with her and she will come on the hand quite readily but other days she is having none of it so now she just flies in her flight as i wouldnt like to take her out then have her start with one of her moods then take off, then a couple of days later have some irrate people knocking on my door cos its had someones cat or poodle lol. i got into it cos someone brought me a injured buzzard which cost me £350 at the vets to have its wi
  10. ive not heard of them being used for that but i know at the shows they usually use male birds as they are smaller and easier to handle so the people at the shows tell me i have a female and yes she is large and very tempermental and two years ago she was tryin her best to get at my borderlakey that was an experience as i didnt expect it at the time and my dog was just as game trying to get the bird
  11. the eagle owls have been living and breeding in the wild in this country for some years now and there have been many articles about them over the years where people say they are attacking them but they forget to mention that the owls are nesting and rearing young at the time and these people are usually walking their dogs and either the person or the dog or both but usually its the dog getting to close to the nesting site. and with these not being native to this country it is legal to collect them from the wild but anyone who hasnt seen one of these birds who is thinking of goin getting one s

  13. after many years of taking part and watching different field sports, how many of you give the quarry the credit they deserve. ive read some posts on here of dogs getting injured due to following there prey. one on here now dog chasing a rabbit, caught the rabbit but come back cut on barbed wire. now this to me isnt the owners fault, someone says he should of known the grounds he was working. but ive been out myself ferreted land, sometimes without nets just to see which way the rabbits run, then gone back with the dog expecting the rabbit to run straight acroos the field like they have befor
  14. Only one person to blame look in the mirror pal If you don't know your ground then don't run your dog and get insured hope she makes a swift recovery jesus christ theres one on every thread ffs are you for real he may know the ground he runs on..but knowing which way the quarry is gonna run is a different matter, you cant not slip your dog just because theres some barbed wire 3 fields away hope it gets better mate, its the scourge of the fecking countryside and it should be banned this guy may know his ground better than anyone else when i worked on the farm we used to move the w
